Just to be clear, in case someone comes to this thread on page 3 and draws the wrong conclusion about the rental multiplier. The rental multiplier does not set the property value. It is just a crude indicator to the level of property prices, i.e. overpriced (bubble) or under priced (depressed). I have heard figures of 200-300x being used to describe a sensible level, but that is of course subjective. I have only heard it used in this way, for the domestic property market.
As for leasing values of commercial property, that is a totally different market. People buy commercial property with the aim to earn/rent it out usually, and not as an investment. About 5 years ago we were quoted commercial property rents in Kunming (not in prime locations) that were higher than they were in comparable districts (not prime locations) in Shanghai. I cannot suggest reasons for this particular form of madness, except just dumb avarice.
Urban management officers replaced by plants
Posted byI think this is more likely to be the trickle down effect, as more people at the lower end of the econmomic scale have disposable income now. The lower end of the vendors market will grow, and as these people get richer they will go up-market little by little.
Government looking to step up supervision of Erhai
Posted byI was there a few months ago, and there was a lot of new guest houses built right along the lakeside road. Some of the pollution will be from run off of cement and dust. I am not sure what the white pollution is/was, eutrophication usually results in higher than normal concentrations of blue green algae, and we all know what that can look like (pea soup).
If lakeside hotels are flushing waste into the lake that is bad for nutrient levels in the water.
Actually, I can see the rationale for moving control to Kunming, the governments around ErHai are more likely to be influenced by local pressures and interests. Lets hope for more transparent management with less self interest. Here's hoping.
Bomb hoax temporarily grounds Kunming Airlines flight
Posted byHe should face criminal charges, and the airline should also attempt to sue for costs.
There have been too many of these hoaxes, in the past they have been because people were late for a flight or other stupid reasons.
When things like this happens, hundreds of people are often affected, and some of these effects can have financial ramifications for other passengers, as well as causing alarm.
Leniencey only sends out the wrong message. IMHO.
Party chief: Yunnan 'embracing a new era of environmental protection'
Posted byThe Great Lakes and many rivers in England were heavily polluted in the past, and all have been cleaned up dramatically.
I can and has been done in the past, and now there are additional new technologies available. All it takes is money, political will, and enforcement.
