Forums > Living in Kunming > Teaching at YUFE this Semester: Suggestions? Help or Advice.

HI,

I will be teaching at the above University this comming semester. Do any of you have any comments about the university, such as how good or bad the administration is? What the students are like? Is the school nice, bad, poor, in good or poor condition?

Also, if any of you happen to have teaching experince at this particualar university or other, what should I do to prepare, both for teaching, and for dealing with the school?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Forums > Living in Kunming > Kunming, good, bad or ugly?

I will be moving to Kunming as of March 1st. Before I arrive I would like to have an better idea of what the adminites that the city has. One question that comes to mind, does Kunming have any medium to high fashion clothing stores either legit or fakes. If so how what are the pricing structure like.

2) For a new comer to China and Kunming, what are your opinions of the city. I have read some of the reviews here o Gokunming concerning restaurant and bars. Where do you suggest to go?

3) Through reading blogs and posting occasionally here, I have noticed a wide range of perspectives on living in China. Some people seem to hate it, while other seem to tolerate it. No one seems to "love" it or really enjoy it. Is China really that hard to acclimate to from a Western Perspective? Or is it that people just miss home and through venting on blogs and what not that a "bad" perception of China is thus created?

Forums > Living in Kunming > New To Kunming as of Feb 20ish 2008

I will be moving to Kunming hopefully around Feb 17 of 2008. I will be teaching at the University of Finance and Economics. Since this is an ex-pat site I was wondering: how is the experience of teaching in China. From what I have heard it can be extremely challenging and frustrating. What are your thoughts?
Also, as a young person myself, how is the nigh life in Kunming? Is there much to do, if so what is there to do.
What would you suggest for me as an individual that has never been to China before. However, I have took two years of Chinese at University.
Lastly, what would suggest to bring to China, such as things that are not as readily avivabe in China. And what are the most hard cultural aspects of Chinese culture, or in particular in kunming to acclimate to?
