You have to shop around. Check out the shop (forgot it's name) right off Beijing Lu, TangShuang Lu. They have all the right tools, did a great job on my road bike. maps.google.com/[...]
I would personally go for a Hybrid, a road frame with straight bars.
I saw some used bikes in their storage area, maybe you can get a deal on one of them ~~..

Are dogs allowed on trains in China? If not, are they really strict about that?
Going to Guilin next week, would like to take my dog along. He's small and i can keep him under control. Trip is supposed to be ~20 hours.

Also check out the shop on the corner of Dianchi and Xinyuan road, south-west of Kunming, near 2nd ring road. They rent bikes, and they have some nice bikes. They had 3 road Bianchi's on sale. And they had alot of mountain bikes.
For an easy ride, good road and not many cars, go to the very end of Remin West road. Its never busy there, and the road is new. Plus, for some reason, its lit at night!
