2 years ago when I was in Lijiang with some friends we visited Qing Xi Park (Reservoir). The signs are clearly posted stating that this is drinking water but there was a guy taking a bath with soap and shampoo in the drinking water. I took a picture of him and that exact moment he reaches down and soaps and scrubs his gonads. We immediately called 12345 and within minutes a guard came and made him leave.
They even have signs in Chinglish:
Source water protection area.
Start from myself to protect the water source.

Lack of Delayed Gratification - can't hold a piece of trash until one reaches a garbage can.
The other problem is - Been to many places where there is Not a single garbage can in sight.
The Chinese report repeatedly mentions the catchphrase "Encourage the High End, Limit the Ordinary, Restrict the Low End" (鼓励高端、控制一般、限制低端) in reference to the new policy.
Hotels, motels, guesthouses are everywhere. No reason to book beforehand.
Short story - Arrived in Lijiang and was walking to our favorite guesthouse when we saw a laowai couple with the dreaded Lonely Planet book in hand. Dazed and confused with the deer in the headlights look I asked them if they needed some help. They were looking for some off the wall place where they already made reservations.
I told them, you just passed 30 or so guesthouses but they were determined to find this one place because they already made reservations. I am not exaggerating - 2 hours later after we got into our hotel and took a shower and were ready to relax in town, we saw the same fools with their double backpacks in tow, sweating and still looking for that guesthouse. I laughed!!!!!!
If you are a pampered 4-5 star lover, they always take laowais. If you like cheap, there is always someone who will take you in. The only one who ever got rejected and had to sleep in a manger was Mary and Joseph.

The new Visa office is located at 118 Tuo Dong Road. There is no number on the building yet so do not bother to look for it. There are 2 passport photo shops on either side of the building. The office is located directly in front of the Kunming Museum. The bus stop is named - Shi Bo Wu Guan - Bus 1, 62, 109, 117, 145, 213, A1 and K3 stop directly in front of the office. Foreigners need to go to the 3rd floor. The Tuo Dong Stadium is located to the right of the office while Baita Road is located to the left of the office.
Weishan, Yunnan: Birthplace of an ancient kingdom
Posted byWeishan has got to be one of the most original places left in Yunnan. Not commercialized and people are kind and not out for money.
Jianchuan was also the same but now that the highway runs right through it has already changed. Same for Shaxi and Shuang Lang in Dali.
Visit Weishan while you can. Great place to go and just hang out and relax, Wei Bao Shan is 11 km away. I like it because you can see all the temples by walking in a circle without having to backtrack. Much better than Shi Bao Shan in JianChuan, Dali.
Lugu Lake airport officially opens for business
Posted byThe new airport is roughly 25 kilometers south of the lakeshore - Those nasty taxi drivers are sure going to make a killing. Of course, they will NOT use the meter.

Sichuan's Changning County (长宁县) is located in Yibin at the confluence of the Min and Yangtze Rivers.
Fracking comes to Southwest China
Posted byUnfortunately, the map provided with the locations of fracking is very small and I can not make out the names of the locations. However, one can see that they are in the SE of Sichuan.
I will take some time later to make out the exact locations and provide the names of the prefectures and counties they are located in.
For those who are not aware, this is the juncture of the Min and Yangtze Rivers. Above Yibin, the Yangtze is also known as the Jinsha River. Below Yibin, the Yangtze is known in Chinese as the Chang Jiang or "Long River."
