That was an interesting, thread, the offtopic definitely more than the original question!
danmairen, I'm pretty much with you but I think it's not worthy to oppose religion because humanity is just peculiarly religious..the simple fact that religion has a long long hystory everywhere in the world explains it, and i think even atheist are religious, to be religious means to believe and love something, not necessarily god with long beard etc, maybe you believe in the power of sharing ideas, or in your family your girlfriend etc, or a book or music..this things have the power change your life as the same way that "god" can in many people..
about christians of course i don't like the "make followers" idea that is often around them but we have to admit that sometimes they do concrrete things, like helping people who needs or just helping in developing some human rights awareness that in a place like china i think it's worthy to do...also not religious do the same but sometimes christians are more active, that's a fact... anyway they propose their ideas, free to accept them or not, but i think you agree on that freedom..
if your concern is that china will be soon a christian country for me that's not a big deal, they are already exposed to the worst stereotypes of the western world, like shitty music or cinema, big food or coffee companies misleading about western food concepts, showing off, monkey shows where laowai is just a clown and so on, just watch cctv or ask the people around what they know and think about laowai.... but it's also their fault because they dont really want to change this confortable idea, so maybe as somebody was ponting out, a good question for the foreigner in km would be "what can i offer to this community", if we do our best to be ourself and not just acting like white men we can really contribute to make this city more diverse and interesting and make locals less vulnerable to all the rest of shitty and totalitarian concepts coming from overseas.
Interview: A farewell chat with Joost Meester
Posted byIm very happy (would say even proud!) to be one of the still resident foreigners who talked with joost about moondog when that was only an idea in his mind, to share during our gigs in town! It was only few years ago, now moondog is a km institution, that was an amazing work joost!
Litlle "critic" about this interview: not even a mention for the fussball, a brilliant idea that helped creating the mixed chinese/laowai crew which is one of the nicest and most precious contributions the bar gives to the city....long live joost and moondog!!!! See you soon back here joost!

Have your say: Vote for the Best of Kunming 2011
Posted bysorry guys but I still think this award is a joke... quality is not counting preferences, clicking links etc otherwise the best musicians ever will be m.jackson, the best film titanic or the best website facebook..most popular often doesn't mean the best...i gave an example nordica hosted few of the most interesting musicians coming to town and it's not even mentioned as a music venue...then if u call the price the best of gokunming i think it would b less pretentious, misleading and fair enough... peace roberto
