Forums > Living in Kunming > Shipping packages internationally

thanks very much for your help.

I called the international post office, and they gave me a quote for shipping via surface mail, which is the slowest method, and probably goes by freight ship. Since I am shipping to the U.S.A., unfortunately the quotes for the U.K. do not help a lot, but your information was very helpful Kal.

For those interested, there are 3 types of shipping service. There is air, express, and surface mail. The prices are roughly 70 quai apart for the 1st kilogram of each type, and then separated by another 20 for each kilogram after 1.

So in conclusion

surface: 1st: 83.5, additional 20 kuai each
express: 1st: approx 140-150 kuai, additional ??? 30-40
air: 1st: approx 200 quai, additional ??? 40-60

unfortunately I was not fully aware of the rates for other types besides surface mail.

hope this helps people.

They told me the maximum they would send per box is 30 kilograms, and had a specific box they sold me for 14.5 quai which was their so called "largest" size. It is 44.5x35x35cm. Hope this helps. If you have a question about your country, they have a specific, itemized list with prices for different shipping services. One can call them and ask.

I am just wondering if people have any information regarding shipping rates to foreign countries.

I would like to send a package by slow boat (of fairly heavy materials) overseas, and am wondering which method is best to do so.

Does the international post office have flat rate shipping for a single size box, or do they charge by the kilogram? If so, does anyone know what sort of prices should be expected?

Thanks

First... I try not to post when I am frustrated... so if anyone involved reads what I wrote earlier, indeed, sorry if it was a little harsh.

Second. There is one definite, absolute case in which I would call the paramedics, it would be if there is any neck back or head trauma. After some time as a CPR instructor, I suppose I am now more likely to go for the ambulance for this reason: The people in the ambulance should have proper training. If there is any question about a neck or back injury, or if someone is not breathing, the paramedics should be called. I also hope that Chinese paramedics have adequate defibrillator machines

If time is of the essence, then maybe go for the taxi for superficial stuff. Just don't forget, generally, if someone is messed up to the point of needing an ambulance, they probably shouldn't be carried or moved or carted around in a taxi for long periods. They should be immobilized, on a stretcher, and in the presence of trained EMTs.

oh and also, bucko... I might try to go to Richland and ask the doctor to help you... maybe he can. He speaks English very well and if nothing else may be able to write down the exact problem or problem area to help the zhong yao doctors. Maybe he could even make a phone call...

Sorry about your pain!

thanks guys.

I have asked around quite a bit, and went to the Richland clinic (a place I know and trust) and got a small, effective, but incomplete back adjustment for 70 kuai total. My back feels much better, and I can at least function. I dont know if I would trust the doctor there to do complicated neck or lower back adjustments, and he certainly doesn't have the same tables as a chiropractor, but if you had middle back pain, I might suggest going to him, and then bridging to a chinese medicine hospital.

I appreciate your addition of the Chiang Mai chiropractor, however, with my school schedule and budget I can't take the time to make that trek all the way there.

I also have seen, in hospitals first hand in Shanghai, doctors doing neck, back, and lower back adjustments in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. I suppose maybe you need to really demand that somebody give you an adjustment instead of just getting a patch of medicine.
