These days there's a sort of Son of Book Club, meeting Fridays, 6.30 pm, at the Slice of Heaven Pizza Parlor, #166 Hong Shan Dong Lu. Mostly we chat, drink beer, eat half-price pizza. But sometimes we talk about books too. This week, some of us will read "The Call of Cthulhu" by H. P. Lovecraft.
The KM English Book Club We Chat group still exist. You can find a .txt format copy of "The Call of Cthulhu" there, readable in many smartphone readers. I suppose you can can download it and print it out if you like!
now. Our old meeting place has gone out of business. Members have been busy with other things since the last holiday. We are certainly open to suggestions, though.
The Book Club is still in business, although we haven't had our first meeting of the new semester yet. If you're interested, we do have a WeChat group, Kunming English Book Club, which you can join. Most of our discussions take place there.
Ok, the book club will next meet 8 August, 1830,at THE PARK. We will talk about Plato's Phaedo, all about life after death. Phaedo can be found at Project Gutenberg.
Isn't he on record as saying killing random Iraqis didn't matter cuz they were from the 12th century? Somehow I doubt he thinks much of East Asian lives, either.
It's been obvious some people in KM have a lot of money in a rather poor province. I'd suspected smuggling as a source of wealth, but now I'll add major corruption to my list.
NB: Jingpo people are more usually called Kachin in English. The present-day border cuts the Kachin area in half, but borders in even the recent past were not fences, keeping people in or out. The "Burmese" refugees maybe ethnic Kachins joining distant relatives.

Hongshan outdoor street market closes permanently

There's no such thing as progress, only change. Nothing is inevitable save death, either.
Outdoor markets obviously meet needs or they would not exist. Walmart/Carre Four are not likely to eliminate them soon, save by force.
