Forums > Living in Kunming > living in Dali and alternatives

I have been living in Dali for the past 3 years. I live outside of the old town as it is quieter and better access to the mountain and lake. There are advantages to Dali, there are some great bars, restaurants and the expat community is great. But Dali is becoming way to commercialized all the shops are generic and often sell the same stuff as the one next door. Kindergartens are a joke here that barely teach the kids anything except how to play by themselves. You should come and visit Dali for awhile before deciding on moving.

I would agree with you Dazzer, wechat should be used after the relationship has been established.

to many people give out their wechat to potential employers with out thinking about what personal details they are sharing, it is akin to giving your potential employer access to your facebook account.

with all your drunk posts, angry posts, intimate posts, posts that you would not want your future boss to see.

I learnt this the hard way, once applying for a job i supplyed the company with my wechat details, and the HR girl started sending pictures of my children to all her friends and was showing them all around the office, to say that i was not pleased is an understatement.

The jade Emu is nice, the cook in the evening is not great as the food tends to be cold, breakfast is good. 5 Elements has building works going on at the moment so might be a little noisy.

One to avoid is Mila's Heim, which is between the 2 and takes over flow from The Jade Emu. The place is very dirty, the kitchen will give you nightmares, and the owners do not care enough to invest in the decaying building.
