Forums > Living in Kunming > Changing CNY to $$$

Thanks to everyone who posted!! I really appreciate it. This OP is a she and an American (fat ass and cornflakes - I don't eat cornflakes and well, fat ass is in the eyes of the beholder). Ha! I will get the going rate for changing CNY to dollars the day I go and I will compare both outside and inside with the day's rate. Our landlady is actually being quite agreeable and giving part of our deposit back today and then the last part next week, so that gives me more time to go over there and figure it all out. Thanks again!!! You all are very kind and informative!

Great HFCampo! Thanks again, so much! I'll get the deposit back next week and then give it a try. I don't have receipts from money we've exchanged previously (reasons why that is, but who cares) and it's an apartment deposit anyway. So, I'll get both rates and post within a week or so, hopefully. Thanks again! You are the best! Having my blonde and blue-eyed son with me brings me tons of luck! What a wonderful time we've had here in Kunming, Lijiang, the Gorge, Dali, etc. Just fabulous!

Thank you so much HFCampo! And just to be sure, they will change RMB to US dollars, right? I will look up the exchange rate before going and compare (hoping they speak English, but if not, we can do calculator language :)). I'll post what the bank would give and what the ladies' going rate is for information on this thread.

HF Campo...I apologize up front for my lack of knowledge with directions. I did read your link and other directions. I am living near RenMin and Beijing Road. Isn't RenMin middle in walking distance from there? I am traveling with my 11 year old son and do my best to get around (we've traveled and hiked the upper path of Tiger Leaping Gorge), but the buses confuse me for some reason. Thanks for any help!

Thanks for all the responses. It sounds like the ladies in front of Bank of China are worth it. We have been staying with my college-aged son who is the Mandarin speaker...he left for the US yesterday. Do any of those nice ladies speak English or do you know? You all probably speak mandarin!!! I know I don't want to wait for the states...big mistake!
