Sure, but I have a bit of paranoia as one never knows whom you might meet. Plus one can accidentally venture to opium producing area and that is something I do not want to do.

Thank you "bluppfisk". We went to Myanmar two years ago (legally via Yangon) and some 10 years ago for a short incursion from Thailand. Also legally. At Three pagoda pass near river Kwai valley, they let us go inside for a few hours with our passports left with the border guard.

we drove from Singapore to Thacilek via Mae Sot and Mae Hong Son. In southern Thailand ear Prachuap, where the Thailand width is only 12 km, we started driving toward Myanmar. we passed Thai border control (I have to say they did look very surprised) but I did not stop and they not stop me either. I was just curious how far we can get. Some 500 meters further I noticed that the motorbike in front of us drives at the other side of the road than in Thailand. And somebody was shouting at us from small hut. I also noticed that this hut is in fact Myanmar border post as there was Myanmar flag about it. So I smiled at them, they smiled back, I made a U-turn and went back to Thailand.

Crossing border on purpose in Myanmar mountainous border is something I would probably try to avoid.

Thank you "lemon lover" and "bluppfisk". I planned (dreamed better to say) to go either to Putao and area around it or along Nujiang river to Tibet. Sure you can laugh about my naiveté and I found it funny myself. So we stay in Yunnan mostly along Nujian river, which is also not that bad. :-) Please forgive me this matter of speech, when I say "not that bad" I actually mean "superb". :-)
