Lot of good information on upcoming things that I have no experience on guys, thx. Obviously I will want to play a major role in helping his early education like my mother did with me as a young child. I think that is one of the major impacts you can have as a parent!
As I thought just the early exposure would be enough for small talk but like some say once a child reaches a certain age teaching will become key to fluency.
@voltaire I will look into that book today, thx for recommending :)
Online hearsay is not always just that though, sometimes personal experience comes through.
A small question (to any experienced) I have in my mind with my Chinese wife due to give birth in about 4 or so weeks is this....
With me (obviously) and my Chinese wife both speaking English at home but everyone else around us speaking Chinese (family, friends etc) will the child learn both languages easy enough or will it just be the home language that stands out? We see family most days for meals so plenty of Chinese language around.
Any kind of thoughts on this would be appreciated :)
Watched it and was amazed at how high these girls basic expectations were! Maybe if this vid was done in Kunming (probably bigger city made in) then the expectations would probably be lower. Couple of the guys gave me a good laugh with their thoughts on Chinese women.
I was thinking the same with the way it would've been played out in court. I'm sure the owners aren't worrying about paying their kids tuition fees or even next months meals compared to some of the workers.
It get's easier upon learning the way's of doing things, kind of becoming an automation on the regular things.
I've been here 4 and a half years learning a little all the time but the language never perfectly sticks, just slowly grows. It's a tough challenge especially when like JanJal my local spouse contributes quite a lot when I have trouble. It's something I think is always worth keeping up with if you're going to stay for any long length of time.

Was there in passing Monday and had dinner in the old town. I would've gone to this area as well had I known, for it's historical importance alone and to show some respect for the fallen of war.
Been here several times lately and every time I've enjoyed my meal. Don't know why some others have said it was pricey, the price has always seemed fair to me :)
