I had a manager who taught English in Ruili and Kunming in the mid 80's and he has some great stories to tell.

I was driven around wherever I wanted to go, I made my own Itinary. I was there for 6 days, travelled around the country, and dont remember being told I couldn't do what I wanted or had to take a certain route.
I would very much doubt that the Korean government had arranged their whole country so that I, a tourist, could take a 6 day trip without seeing something out of place.
Go, then tell me. If you haven't been then you're hardly going to convince me that my trip was a promotional stunt so I didn't go on GoKunming and leave a bad review, that would have crushed the government I'm sure.
I was in North Korea only last week. Lovely place, friendly people, clean and safe.
Its a shame that the Americans seem to be busting for a fight to change all that.
Perhaps the brainwashed masses are not on the side we are told.
Im testing from Kunming and I find Tokyo or Taiwan to be the best (in my opinion) when using Express on the computer.
When I'm out and about on the phone I find Bhutan to be the best by a long way, especially for downloading podcasts.
Could it be everyone's devices and locations are determining what serves work best for them? I found HK to be quite slow in the past and that they kept dropping.
The wildlife near me is pretty good.
Its easy to come across some pretty spectacular insects, most of which I have no idea what they were. Once saw a scorpion.
A twitcher would love it here, I've seen Kingfishers,
hoopies, even an African grey parrot which must have been an escaped pet.
Lots of snakes and lizards, and so many squirrels that there had to be something put on the window incase they came in.
Saw a tortoise one. Another time saw a deer on a golf course.
All that was just in Kunming.
In the whole of Yunnan the most spectacular thing
I have seen has to be a Yak I would say.
