I am pretty sure that you can get Baidu map to work in your case as long as you can debug the existing plugin(if you are using WP). Baidu has the API out there for this kind of basic application.

Given your map application is not demanding, you can consider www.openstreetmap.com, which I just found not yet blocked, as an alternative. You won't have the language problem with OSM. Plus, it has the wordpress plugin, wordpress.org/plugins/osm/, if you are using WP.

I personally use google map only, FYI.

Although I know my English needs to be polished, last time I went to English corner was some 5 years ago. To me the problem of English corner is that the frequently asked questions & answers take up to too high % which eventually makes the corner ends up as a FAQ session.

Obviously both sides desire commonly to make in-depth communication so that it can go beyond language itself to become interesting, informative and insightful, but when the levels are not parallel, one side doesn't understand the counter-side enough, the conversation is dying then it has to be discontinued.

To ask the corner planner to organize better seems infeasible. What is the incentive or motivation? Moreover, I was wondering if the 'planners' really exist.

IMHO there is no solution to improve the quality of English corner. If one really wants to better the language skill, there are options like Toastmaster or participating in activity-specific mutual-learning as activity itself, say bicycling, makes the learning a fun.

As a guy working on big data in Kunming I can tell that bluppfisk is actually looking for an enterprise-grade, fast-speed, reliable storage solution and NAS is by no means a good options as accessing externally can 9 out of 10 be a nightmare.

Putting a server in HK or at China-telecom appears like a viable option in consideration of the desired speed as it mostly doesn't require VPN or SSH however you need a dedicated IT guy to take care of the hardware issues and regular maintenance which brings up an overhead that even exceeds the storage budget itself($10,000).

My idea for you is to grab a storage from Amazon China who is known for taking good care of hardware & backup issues then pay one time to have a IT guy to set up the access(upload & download) interface. Your tight budget can work in this protocol I feel.
