Hello all,

I am hoping for advice on how to track down a bird expert in the following areas: Kunming, Lijiang, and Shangrilila/Deqin. Speaking at least limited English is a necessity! If there is a birding society or other zoological institute where the experts are able to meet with other birding experts from overseas to assist in touring the local areas of Yunnan, this will be ideal.

Hello all,

I'm hoping for a travel Visa for a 1-to-2-week stay in India. I'd like to visit a travel agent here in Kunming to have this arranged. Looking back on previous related posts, the most recent one appears to be from 3 years ago.

Could anyone please share the current situation with applying for a Visa to India while here in Kunming? My understanding is that there are Indian consulates in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, but I don't have the ability to visit these myself since I'm bound by work here in Kunming.

If you are able, please recommend a travel agent here in Kunming who can conduct this process on my behalf.

Thank you all for the great tips. I've heard that there is a possibility of buying an unlocked iPhone 4/4S in Kunming via the Hong Kong market, and then using this here and also in the States. I have a friend who did this in the past here, and he's looking into that possibility again now and getting back to me. If anyone else knows anything about this, please let me know. In the meantime I'll keep doing research and let you all know what I find. Thanks again!

This is great. I think I may go the iOS/iPhone route. Any special considerations when purchasing one of these to ensure that I can use it both in China and the US? Also, where would I be able to purchase an iPhone 4, unlocked, here in Kunming? I am willing to pay 3k RMB or around that ballpark.
