Ok, I think I get it. Thanks all for the feedback. I need a visa stamp at the end of this month so it appears my one choice is to carry both passports. But for 10 years? Somehow that just doesn't resonate with any semblance of common sense.

anyone know how I can go about transferring my 10 year visa to my new passport? PSP says to carry both old and new passport with me....say what? Went back with a translator and 3 different people confirmed thats the way to handle it.
I don't know if it's too late to get an appointment for renewal, but an embassy officer will be at the Green Lake Hotel this Saturday the 26th. I got an appointment via email about two weeks ago. My understanding is that I will submit forms that I downloaded, and pay the fees to the officer. He will take the forms back to Chengdu and a new pass port will be issued within two weeks. It will be mailed but providing its registered, I see no problem. Upside is no traveling required. good luck
Does anyone have recent info on the 'Kunming International Clinic',
I've been repeatedly dialing 411-0100 and I've been receiving "out of service". This is the number listed here on gokunming.
