There used to be a tailor on Dong Feng Lu, near the movie theater and the intersection with Wen Lin Jie, a bit up-hill from the hospital. He worked out of a traditional style house. He made a lot of suits for foreign students at Yunnan U. Last time I looked, his old style house was gone. Has he moved to some place near by? Far away? Or is he retired? Or what? I want to get some pants and shirts made.
Thanks.
Is there an up-to-date map (on line or on paper) of Kunming's bus routes? I need to know how to find the new long distance bus stations. I will be living near Xiaoximen but I need to know how to reach the new West and South long distance bus stations, in particular.
Any way to find out which city busses service these new bus stations? How do I get from Xiaoximen to the new West bus station or the new South bus station? None of them seem to be any place convenient to bus riders.
I'm returning to KM after a few months away. Friends tell me that the bus stations near the south train station, BJ road, have disappeared, replaced by a new bus station in far off Chenggong. True?
I find it hard to believe that one must go all the way to Chenggong for a cheap bus to Yuxi, for example. What about the West Bus Station, near the Art College, or the New South Bus Station, next to the new second hand market in Fu De? Can one leave, say, the Cloud Land Hostel for Jing Hong without a long expensive detour to Chenggong?
Thanks.

I've stayed here many times over the years and been very satisfied. Central location, comfortable rooms, reasonable prices. Some might mind the noise from the Bad Monkey Bar across the street, but I've always been able to sleep. The staff is very helpful with bus tickets, excursion tickets and the like.
Does anyone know if this is still a going concern? Or destroyed by the fire?
One of my favorite places in Jing Hong! It's my landmark, the center of the hotel, restaurant, bike, etc., area. I discovered dark Beer Lao there!
But getting to the S. bus station takes another hour....
Around Town: Scenes of desolation in 'New Kunming'
Posted byI visited the Normal U. Campus and the Minorities U. campus around New Years. It's still a wasteland and probably very boring for students to live there. Faculty insist on living at their old Cui Hu area apartments.
Aside from all else, Cheng Gong has no public transportation, making it almost impossible to get around, unless you are one of the new rich, with a car. Just getting there from other parts of KM is very difficult, and I don't expect the subway to change that soon.

China and India look to strengthen ties
Posted byI've been telling my students for years that one reason to study English is that business with India is bound to grow. One need only look at the map to notice that two of the fastest growing countries in the world are almost side-by-side, and that Kunming is well-placed to benefit from that. English will almost certainly be how Indian and Chinese businessmen communicate.
