Forums > Living in Kunming > Breakfast, nightsnack and massage

Hi all,

I'm coming back to Kunming soon, but haven't been here for what seems way too long for me.

So, could you please advise me on where to find :

- A good place for chinese breakfast in the street, meanning xiao long bao, jiao zi and dou nai

- A good spot/street/area for good night food along the street (shao kao), a lively place with nightcrowds and stuff.

- A good and cheap enough place to get a nice massage (just massage, no...) and also a good foot massage (I so much love foot massage).

- Oh ! and a good hairdresser too (rather a nice and comfy beauty saloon, not a sad little one at the corner please).

THANK YOU for your replies

Forums > Travel Yunnan > A good guesthouse in Shuhe

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good - or some good - guesthouse(s) in Shuhe that would match the following criteria :

- Good centered location in a small alley or along the little stream that goes through Shuhe
- Old Naxi house - not a concrete new building (although I doubt there are any).
- Reasonnable price - around 150/200 kuai per night for a twin/double with private bathroom.

Lastly, if going there in august, arriving in the morning around about 10:30, should I be able to find a room directly or is it big enough a risk that I'd rather make a reservation ?

Thanks to all of you for your help

PS : I'm asking you because you guy's experience is a plus, and reservation sites aren't always enough to be sure to be making the right decision.

OK thanks to Natsymir and TICexpats for you inputs.

However I have too little time (13 days exactly) to show to my friend all the beauties of Yunnan, so I'm gonna have to make some choices, and these choices mean put in some mainstream sure values that I already know, such as Dali and Lijiang.

Even though these have now long since lost their authenticity, for someone visiting for the first time, they are still very nice places with a lot of things to do inside and around.

However I plan to also include another area, say one with some more subtropical climate.
So at this time of the year, for the scenery and everything, would you more recommend Puzhehei or Yuanyang ?

I personnally was really looking forward to visisting Yuanyang which I've never seen, 'till I came across posts talking about Puzhehei. Puzhehei looks like a little Yangshuo without yet the same crowd.
So in the end I wonder if Puzhehei, specially at this time of year, wouldn't be a better choice than Yuanyang.

What do you think ?

@HFCAMPO :

Hi ! Well, given you remarks in your last post, you obviously read my posts, and read them well, and try to make the best analysis out of what I state.
Thank you for taking the time.

So to be clearer :

Arrival in Yunnan through Kunming on 27th.
Plan to stay 2 days in kunming and then move on into the province.
Back in KMG on the 9th of august, since my friend's plane takes off on the 9th at 8 PM.

Forums > Travel Yunnan > Yunnan must-see places

Hi again everyone,

I will be travelling in Yunnan with a friend for two weeks.
I've been to Yunnan quite a few times already, and there are a few places that I know quite well for having gone there again and again over the years.

However, for my friend, It's his first time in China/Yunnan.
Therefore, I'd like to ask for your advice :
What are according to you, the MUST SEE places and things around Yunnan (that includes Kunming).

I'll add this : even though I came to Yunnan several times and even lived in KMG for a year sometime ago, I've never visited the stone forest !!!
Question : is it really a true stunner or is this a skipable stop as there are way better things to see elsewhere ?
