I wouldn't trust just about any ordinary or even famous Chinese hospital for STD test after all I've heard, read and seen, because of the high percentage of false positive results (and still relatively high percentage of false negative) and also because of hygiene concerns. Make sure they were the appropriate! gloves and all parts of the syringe are new and packaged, not recycled!

Kunming should have one hospital specially dedicated to these tests - with the highest hygiene standards and experts (maybe in combination with a department, in Chengdu it's covered as a dermatological clinic). This hospital is should be the one to double check (false) positive results of other hospitals. As I don't live in Kunming I can't tell you which one it is, but you could ask in a hospitable to tell you the address to verify a positive test.

Depending on the disease it shouldn't be more then a couple of dozens kuai. Before you take the test and after a doctor will consult you and ask you questions (why, how, blabla). Make sure to bring a Chinese speaking friend, if you yourself don't speak the language, don't count on doctors to make an effort to address you in English.

Instead of asking for an HIV test maybe you could ask for another less serious, treatable disease to avoid harassment and embarassment to locate the right clinic (only go the specialized one). Test results should be there instantly or within 24hours depending on the kind of test and disease and lunch breaks:)

If you want to avoid going to state agencies to check order home tests online. I don't have a link at hand, but Mirates Rapid Home tests for either HIV or Hepatitis B or combination used to be available in Hongkong if I remember correctly. Now there are other brands on the market that you could order online. The home tests are more expensive (up to 20 $), but you get a result within 5 min with a 99,9% accuracy (a lot better than a normal or even very good hospital in China).

All the best and maybe you can report back about your experience, as it is a sensitive topic to deal with, but first hand-info might be very much appreciated by others in similar situations.

This German mother-exorcist is extremely successful in invading the underground live bars all over China. His events are regularly sold out way ahead. And a 100 or 200 RMB entrance fee isn't cheap. Obviously he does something right, and hits the main nerve of young Chinese teenagers with lyrics and music that can't be describe other than extremely cheesy. In fact so cheesy that one could even suspect a very well-hidden cynic behind his forced emo-mask (American psycho anyone?).

Hey Max do us a favor and skip the underground places on the mainland, get a deal with China mobile and play in the big culture palaces, that's the appropriate location. But more likely we will see more of his offspring.

As far as I remember this used to be a good place for pizza, but shidai bian le. Service is slow, pizza is ok-average, but nothing great, nor is the music, deco. Their tortellini are ridiculously expensive, and the portion so small, that they agreed not to charge for it. The fresh orange juice is the only deal I can recommend. 10 Yuan.

First it took the taxi driver quite a while to drive around as it's hidden in a side street off Beimen Jie. But the location isn't bad: 10 min walk off the lazy hang-outs on Wenlinjie (with a short cut through the east gate of Yunnan Uni). As often in China it took the staff half hour to check us in, with requesting our passports again at night and again after the check-in. Yes they have hot water, but you have to wait very long (up to 30 min at night!!!) and waste a lot of water in the meanwhile, which I specifically mention out cause they jump on the bandwagon of being green at least according to the Chinglish stickers in the bathroom. Staff wasn't very helpful when I asked them about the hot water prob, they were too lazy to get up or even reply, let alone that all the Q&A would be in Chinese, as they don't speak a word of any other language and don't bother. At first glance the rooms are clean, but next day there was a huge cockroach surfing on the wet bathroom floor. Rooms are tiny and remind you of bad days in Chungking Mansion in Hongkong. Really tiny (you can hardly move around in the half meter space between the wall and the bed), and the doubles are even smaller than the twins. All rooms have half transparent bathroom windows, which in terms of twins is a quite perverse idea. The rooms have no AC, but big flat-screen TVs, telephone and internet access. When you lift the curtains your view is limited by a fat white wall, and no it isn't the "Great" wall. The mattresses are really hard, too hard for me. I managed to break two new little shower parts just by turning it on and off, and one glass busted when filled with hot water. Also the ventilation in the bathroom doesn't really work, so in a couple of months it will be really moldy.
Other than that the hotel has no other whatsoever facilities, and no maps or other free info to help you getting around KMG. As even the lobby can only have 2 people seated at the same time it makes it really just a place for sleep, the shit/shower&shave and leave asap. I give it one star, because you feel like staying in a prison, there are better options for less money and for a bit more you get a room in real hotel like the Home Inn. Don't stay here unless every single room in Kunming is booked out and you happen to hold the Guinness world record for being the smallest person on the planet.
