Oh, even though you tell her "I love you" basically every day.

She will get stupidly angry if you are two or three minutes late, but happily make you wait an hour. At home, she will hit you, maybe throw things at you. Even if you say sorry one hundred times for some little thing, she won't talk to you. She will expect impossible miracles like you getting from Nanping Jie to the North of the city in 5 minutes. She will oppose you getting a good night's sleep. But these aren't important. The important thing is that she will almost never say "I love you", so you have absolutely no idea whether or not she loves you.
Sorry, should have said, "but if you're away *from work* "
Does anyone know if this sort of thing would apply to work residence permits as well? Thinking logically, I can't see how it could - as a student, if you don't show up to class, well, you just don't show up. But if you're away, you need to ask for leave anyway, you can't really just not show up.
Ah, Maybe all this explains why I did so well when I took the driving licence (theory) test here in Kumming a few weeks ago. 99 out of 100 first go, and I took the test in Chinese, not English. Apart from the time I spent preparing, I based my answers on how the traffic *should* work, not so much how it *does* work!

I've been a few times now, it's a nice place. Beers brewed in~house are of course something quite special, and the pizzas, and some of the other snacks, are very nice. I was there tonight, and for the first time, tried the American~style ribs. I have to say that they weren't as good as I was expecting. But that could be that I'm not really familiar with this dish? On the whole, though, it's a great place.
Giveaway: Tickets for World of Flowers - The Botanical Art of Zeng Xiaolian
Posted byI went to the exhibition this afternoon, and it was amazing. It was the first time I've been to the Contemporary Gallery Kunming, and the gallery itself is quite impressive - I was expecting perhaps just a small building, but it is actually very spacious. The exhibition design, with the 'living garden' idea, really draws you in to the exhibition space, while the centrepiece artwork "The journey of Chinese plants" is a wonderful riot of colours. If you like art, flowers, botanical illustration, or even just something new, I highly recommend going!
Life in Kunming: A cabbie's perspective
Posted byAs Sam said above, a good idea, and I look forward to more. But the interview could have been more interesting, even for this sort of thing, a few more piercing, probing questions wouldn't hurt. On another note, eight or nine hours a day? Is that standard? If so, cabbies in Kunming are on a better deal than those in Australia, with standard twelve hour shifts!
A quick guide to Kunming's Metro Line 2
Posted byWhen I bought a new bus card at Xiaoximen ladt year, I was told it could be used on the Metro, but I haven't ridden yet, so can't be 100% sure. The card has 一卡通 printed on the front. Oldet bus cards won't work though.
