Summers in KM are not bad. Clouds keep the sun from getting too hot. Carry an umbrella or a rain poncho for showers, and you'll do OK.
I'm sure your English is plenty good enough. Swedish is a related language, after all.

Dear PO'd expats: don't let the men hit you on the pigu when you leave!
When I read the whiny Americans here, I remember why I sometimes used to hide my face when I saw one of my countrymen get on the bus. If seeing someone spit or pee is the worst thing that's ever happened to you....
There is also a large market at Bai Yun Tao Bao City, on Bai Yun Lu, about a block east of where it crosses Bei Jing Lu. It's a few blocks from the site of the former Bai Yun Lu Second Hand Market.
Personally, I like everything about China. Noisy eating is not a serious flaw, nor is letting the babies fertilize on the trees.
If you want to live in a US suburb, why did you come to China?

The beer is good. The food, OK, if you're dying for something Western. Food service is better in the daytime, mamahuhu in the night time.
I haven't stayed in their guesthouse, but I'll guess it's noisy in the night times.
Prague Cafe in Bei Chen Walking Street is Prague III.
There are other branches in Wen Lin Jie and in Lijiang.
I've been a long time customer of the Wen Lin branch.
Both Kunming branches are pleasant places to meet and chat with friends.
The food may not be the cheapest, but the cheapest would be from the street vendors.
I meet and drink coffee with friends at the Wen Lin PC several times weekly, especially since the Yun Joy Cafe is no more.
I've been drinking Beer Lao and coffee here, off and on for some years.
It's always a pleasant place to relax. The food is good as well. Close to cheap hotels and bike rental on Manting Lu, too.
Farmer displacement threatening Fuxian Lake's water quality
Posted byDisplacing farmers to make way for suburban developments around China may have a lot to do with the high price of food lately.
Getting Away: Jinghong
Posted byI've often enjoyed relaxing at the Banna Cafe, as well.
Bicycle ambassadors leave Kunming for Southeast Asia
Posted byToo bad this won't promote bike riding, discourage cars.
Wenhua Xiang filling up with financially overextended youth
Posted byTotal, I would say the main problem is the cars. Let the vendors and their customers alone. As for "flouting the law", this is not America! If it were, I'd move away again.
Wenhua Xiang filling up with financially overextended youth
Posted byThere used to be a lot of street food vendors on Jianshe Lou and in front of the Yun Da guesthouse. They were great, until someone in power had them chased away (probably with the excuse "that's not what they do in America!!"). Now that some are coming back to Wen Hua Xiang, I am happy. Maybe the restaurants will get to have outdoor tables again. If I wanted to do all my shopping in Walmart, etc., I'd live in the USA.
