Take but #55 to the old West bus station, get off and walk to the opposite of the street. Walk down the alley you see descending and you'll find a cluster of zhaodaisuo (hostels) serving students, and maybe you. The Think UK apartment complex is next door. I don't know the prices but they can't be too high. Expect simple accomodations.

You might also try Bai Yun Tao Bao City, on Bai Yun Lu, a block or so east of the intersection with Bei Jing Lu. It's a couple blocks east of the site of the former huge open air market on Bai Yun Lu. I suspect that about 1/2 the vendors have moved to Tao Bao.
If lots more people raise coffee, the price sure to drop. In much of the world, coffee is not profitable for this reason.
I suppose farmers can still plant food crops between the coffee trees. Maybe alternating rows of coffee and tea plants would avoid too much boom and bust.
