Wow. Good timing for that guy! I had a Chinese friend call a taxi and the drive was very emphatic that all taxis go to the new airport and that a fare would not be rejected.
I'll try out the guy in the classifieds for my Sunday trip and report back.

Looking for suggestions. If I just hail a taxi outside of my place(Green Lake), will they take me to the airport for a set price? Or are they likely to refuse me?
How would I go about arranging a taxi the day before? Flag one down and ask to be picked up?
Also, there is a bus @ the New Nanjing Hotel. Anyone tried that?
I think we have China Unicom (6M, or so I am told). We live on the north side of Green Lake.
At times, I can stream content well. But 75% of the time, I can barely send email. Ugh!
I'd love to stream some video from the USA, but in the Kunming evenings, my bandwidth goes to almost nothing. Using my VPN, I can barely even surf web pages. When I turn off the VPN and run speedtest to San Francisco, it's worse than dial up modem speed!
Is it just me and my connection? Or does this happen in general in Kunming at night?
I already had an F from a few business trips I made earlier in this year.
