Wow! Great addition to Kunming on two accounts...
1. Great outdoor seating in the heart of Kunming - 20 tables! Too bad Kunming doesn't have more outside seating to take advantage of the superb Kunming weather...
2. Love the coffee. A step u from the existing coffee houses. Unlike many so-called coffee houses their focus is actually coffee!
Still room for 5 star coffee houses in Kunming....just haven't seen one yet...Too bad Wenhua Shen / Wenlin Jie was never allowed to develop to it's potential with outdoor seating rather than the "Gang" of illegal vendors that have consumed the street.
Effectively hassle free environment, good coffee, lots of outdoor seating, multiple plugs for wireless internet, impeccably clean environment (inside/outside/bathrooms) with good air conditioning inside for a hot day. Nice to see the madness surrounding the soft opening subside - service has definitely improved since the first few days..

Stumbled upon this place on the less busy side of Wenlin Jie, one warm afternoon looking for a place to grab a bite to eat, go on-line awhile, chill-out. I was shocked to find out it was around for several years. I missed it....
Great environment, spacious, non-crowded, quiet, comfortable tables, free wi-fi, extensive selection of western / chinese food at reasonable prices. Tried several Chinese / Western dishes at different times - nothing to fancy but all quite acceptable and very good value. Service was attentive and courteous.
Despite no Guacamole the Mexican dishes (love the Chicken Burrito) and ice cream deserve 4 stars...Happy hour specials, rest of the menu, coffee, drinks, staff and service are all reasonable. Menu has experienced price creep and is now not the most reasonable in town.
Unfortunately, THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONLY COFFEE HOUSE IN KUNMING WITH NO WIRELESS INTERNET! - only a few wired connections available at a single inconvenient table with uncomfortable plastic chairs. Is this due to Salvador's publicity success in the Useless (Lonely) Planet guide leading to an overrun of backpackers hogging the tables and abusing the free wi-fi? Don't know. But from what was a regular haunt for a regular customer, the net result is what was once a great spot to grab some decent food, enjoy wi-fi while having a cocktail or a coffee has definitely slipped a couple of notches...
The bakery products are fantastic....A variety of different grains, crusty breads all freshly made. Unlike many bread products and such purchased in Kunming, the Slice of Heaven's ingredients are fresh and wholesome. They don't leave you wondering what was inside the food you just ate. Hands on personal touch by the Owner has kept the quality of the product consistently great.
A real winner in terms of bread/bakery products and a real nice addition to Kunming....
