there's an indian consulate in guangzhou. sadly
(18 months ago) they did not allow agents to
apply for visas, nor did they accept mail. you
must go in person for the 20-minutes of filling
in forms. your passport will be dhl'd back to you.
why would you need a tourist visa? if the language
school is legitimate, they should be able to sponsor
your student visa. you should be able to get that
in hong kong, "maybe" in thailand or laos.
the x-visa is similar to the z-visa. it's single entry,
good for zero days. you have 30 days to get your
residence permit, which acts as an unlimited
re-entry permit.
you don't surrender the residence permit. that's a
permanent sticker in your passport. it will eventually
expire, or the embassy may cancel it when you get
a new visa.
nonnononono. i don't wanna go TO yuxi,
i just wanna get AWAY from yuxi. i'm cycling
from thailand to kunming. would rather avoid
the traffic coming into the big city, thus the
question about the train. if no train, then
i must cycle uphill. likely with headwind.
and rain.
Anyone know if the 990/989 or 8945/8946 trains are still running between kunming and yuxi? Internet search says depart yuxi
daily at 8:00am, arrive km 10:15 daily.
hard seat fare 10 or 15 RMB.
These are the standard trains, not the new
high-speed replacement line scheduled for
2015. (who's in that much of a hurry to
get to yuxi anyway?)
if so, what's the deal on taking a bicycle
on the train?
