Recently returned here after a lengthy absence and was pleasantly surprised that standards have been maintained. I fully agree with the last review. And the cheapest red wine at RMB 118 is actually very good and a better deal than per glass. You can take it away if you don't finish.

In all fairness to Salvador's, the "58 yuan" coffee you're talking about includes both ice cream and liqueur (Kahlua or Bailey's) [see: www.gokunming.com/en/microsites/salvadors/menu.php].

Though I haven't been to Q's, I had a similarly disappointing experience at UBC Coffee where my Americano topped ¥40.

The cheapest places I've been to for a decent cup of coffee in Kunming are Dona Donuts (¥5, Jianshe Lu) and McDonalds (¥6).

Although it goes without saying that neither beats Salvador's in terms of taste or class.

The business card says Dan Di Coffee, it also says Fresh 'crushed' coffee!

But the menu says Dan Di Cafe which is probably what they want.

Having got that little comment out of the way, I'll tell you that the modern, Continental, and cosy atmosphere, complete with soft jazz, puts this cafe on my Go-again List.

Judging by the stated 8:00 am opening time and a great English-language (well, almost) breakfast menu . . . it's a great place for breakfast.

But the variety of food should please anybody at anytime.

And wine-by-the-glass is available.

The young, capable, staff are always smiling . . . if only the manager would.

But, that's enough for now -- I don't want the place to get too crowded.

I've never eaten at Teresa's, but I have had the pizza delivered and it was definitely better than I expected.

The plain cheese or one with different meats were my favorites.

I try to steer clear of the strange Chinese pizza toppings like seafood, corn, etc....

In response to prd34:

First, it's ridiculous to blame a certain restaurant for your sickness.

Foodborne illness (often called food poisoning) has an incubation period of up to several days.

It's just as likely that you got sick from an earlier meal in the day or even something you ate the day before.

Second, The Silver Spoon has always offered to make a fresh sandwich if you want it.

You could have just asked.

If you have a bad experience at a restaurant that everyone else has rated with 5 "GKs," you might want to try it again because your opinion is obviously in the minority.

I have eaten at the Silver Spoon many many times and it has always been good.

I love the salads (especially the Bacon Blue Cheese and Apple Maple Walnut), but the sandwiches and soups are great too.

Silver Spoon is also a great place for coffee and dessert (and if you buy a coffee or drink, I love the raspberry lemonade, that's 16RMB or more from 2-4pm you can get a dessert for half price!).

No, I don't work for The Silver Spoon, I've just been there so often that I know...

My favorite part is the friendly staff who know my name (cue Cheers music) and the fact that it looks like a real American cafe/bistro.

The cookies classes and parties are also fun ideas.

They have wifi, too, like many of the places near Wenlinjie.

Ok, since I feel like I have to say something negative...the prices are not the cheapest, but when it comes down to it, it's worth it!

Also, they used to have Blondies

(sort of brownies, but with white chocolate) all the time, but I haven't seen them recently.

Bring back the Blondies, Silver Spoon!!!

If you're wondering about the prices, here are some examples:

Small Salad/Soup: 12
Large Salad/Soup: 22 (add 10 if you want chicken)
Bread of the Day: 8
Small Sandwich: 22 (30 for combo with a small salad or soup)
Large Sandwich: 30 (38 for a combo)
Cookies: 2-4
Bars: 12-14
Cheesecake: 20-28
Americano: 8
Cappuccino: 16
Latte: 18
Flavored Latte: 22
Chai: 22 (I've heard it's really good!)
Small Drink (Blackcurrant Cinnamon Iced Tea, Raspberry Lemonade, Peach Iced Tea, Strawberry Apple Juice): 12
Large Drink: 20

The "lodge-style" restaurant is beautiful and ornate, the service is surprisingly good and the food is quite tasty.

Of course, you have to try the yak meat and the yak butter tea!

The food is quite heavy, so it's best on a cold night.

It is Tibetan, after all...

The problem is the nightly show.

It's good for maybe the first 30 minutes or so, but then it just goes on and on and on.

It's also unbearably loud if you are sitting near the stage.

Makye Ame is not the place to go if you're looking for a place where you can actually talk to the people you're eating with.

My family and i really enjoy Salvadors. The food is good and generally consistent which is not always easy to find in China. The coffee is also good as is the icecream .More importantly the beer is cold!

For those new to Kunming i would take some reviews about poor service from Salvadors with a grain of salt. You are now living in Jamaica and nothing happens in a hurry. Just try doing business here! My family and i find the service good by Chinese standards and if you happen to get

forgotten ask the girls and they will try and fix the problem.

One complaint: what the bloody hell happened to the wasabi chicken and mushroom bagel melt!

Advice: (for what its worth), get rid of wifi so all the tables aren't taken up by individuals cruising the net and sitting on a cup of coffee all afternoon.

Thought: Have taken an interest in the food and drink reviews. Have noticed that Bernie is not backward in coming forward with complaints about restuarants. Would

be good to know what and where you do like Bernie.

We love this place and go there often. The pizzas are tasty and reasonably priced and my son loves to play the soccer game in the front. The staff here are also very pleasant.

I went here once and that was the last time. I got sick as a dog and it took me several days to recover. I got there late and the only food they had were dishes that looked as if they had been sitting around all day. These were half-price if one bought a drink. Well, I did and it was the last time. It is also a bit pricey and definitely not worth the trip from central Kunming nor worth getting sick over.

This place is fantastic and even though we live in the center of Kunming, we love to go there for a meal. The food is excellent and the people there are super friendly. The coffees are good and the chili is especially good. Just don't go on a Sunday - they will be closed. One more thing that is really nice about this place is the fact that it is a No Smoking establishment, which is hard to find in this area of the world.
