Waterloo Beer - 99 kuai. The best 99 kuai you'll spend on booze in Kunming.

White Vedett on a sunny day overlooking Wenlin Jie and the trees, and what used to be a wide-walking boulevard, I was recently told.

The menu is mostly snacks, but I got the 'shop noodles' for lunch today. Very tasty. The drink selection is wonderful. Hope they can get some American craft beers too.

Good noodles (well perhaps most Chinese places can pull off a Chinese dish properly). Excellent selection of beer, including my favourite Orval. Beer is chilled to the right temperature indicated on the label. Friendly and good-smiling staff. Fair-priced. Terrace in the sun.

Only complaint? Not enough matching glasses to serve those delicious beers in. See, if that's the only complaint, it's a 5-star review!

Why can't other places be as good?

Hard to think of a reason not to give Dune a five star review. The owners are very friendly and provide excellent service, as do the staff.

The noodles are decent, and give one a good impression of the kitchen; I won't be afraid to sample other dishes on the menu.

The main event though is the beer selection, which is one of the best in town.
A great spot to sit in the afternoon sun sipping a good beer.

Sam_KM, I haven't met you yet but you are quickly becoming my new hero. A place to get Trappist beer in Kunming, you've got to be kidding me? Incredible!

For those beer lovers who haven't had an authentic Trappist, I suggest you start with a Trappistes Rochefort 6 (quite a bargain at 33 kuai). These are some of the highest rated beers in the world and I am still in shock that I can get one (in an authentic trappist glass) in Kunming :)
