I am looking to start renovating a new apartment in Kunming.

Who did you use? If anyone could recommend a particular company/construction team that would be really great.

Any tips, advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have just been through the whole painful process.

I would very strongly recommend you use a larger decoration company. They seem more expensive, but will actually save you money overall. They also provide turnkey solutions and will be responsible for everything. Smaller guys will outsource stuff and then will not be responsible.
The independent traders should be avoided at all costs. Anything they need to put right that involves cost will come out of their own pocket, and they will not want to do this. The bigger companies, the money would come out of the companies profits, and not be personally attached to the guy doing the job.

Trust no one, and remember the only stupid question is the one you did not ask.

Most of the big companies use the same team long term. They have a project manager and a site supervisor.
Having done renovations in UK and decorations here, I can tell you that something will always go wrong.

The little guys can find extra ways to squeeze, chisel money out of every little thing. With the big guys everything is invoiced and costed.

We used Zhong Ci, but Purapple are also highly recommended.
B&Q used to have a bad reputation, but I believe they have turned this around, as it was killing their business. B&Q will probably be the cheapest option.
