Brooklyn Pizza

Alien: thanks for a balanced, constructive review of the place.

Prices are a bit high, but what expat run place in Kunming is cheap these days?? With 'Great Australian Bite opening tonight, French cafe opposite Brooklyn, this area is quickly developing into a much more welcoming, expat pleasing (and cultured local) area than 'fu-er-dai' wenlin jie.

Let's encourage them to get those other taps going! 4 draft lines in a place is a great luxury in Kunming! Respect to O'riely's for starting that trend!

Yeah, if they aren't affiliated with O'Reilley's, at least it seems like they got a few ideas from them.

Also, if they aren't checking GoKunming to have an idea of where their customers want them to improve, then they are leaving a stain on a publicly exposed resource and missing a good chunk of business. I wouldn't be surprised if, like Magnifico mentioned, this was a forum thread purposely started by a close friend of the owner to help give more exposure and create a buzz, since the Latest Reviews container doesn't appear anywhere on the main parts of the site.

It seems like there are quite a few expat-owned business owners who do check GoKunming and take action to improve their service or make up for a mistake. Salvador's would probably be the main example. They always make the change or improvement as soon as you hit Submit. And it visibly is effective.

The sooner Brooklyn pizza get their things in order, the quicker they'll get a loyal customer base that will help bring in even more patrons. Hopefully that won't lead to a decline in food portion and quality, and a price rise for pizzas with more veggies and are an inch bigger than in big cities. It's Yunnan and not New York or dry Beijing.

Hi,

Just wanted to say the Brooklyn Pizza is in no way affiliated to O'Reilly's.

On a separate note, I went there for dinner last week so probably their first week in business. Service was good, and food came pretty quickly for the amount of people there!
Having lived in France for close to 14 years, I can say that they are extremely cheap compared to any restaurant back home. Had the 24 inch pizza with 5 friends and was already full after 3 slices...my share would've been 37 rmb... (even had to give a few slices away haha). Their small pizza is already bigger than any pizza in town at the same price or lower!

Wish them good luck and as Hasenman said, give them some time it's never easy in the first few weeks.

'My point of that late-night rant (perhaps not so clear cut) was that it would be nice if GoK readers/posters offer constructive criticism and support (tell the owners..i don't think they have time to read GoK these days) rather than a orgy of 'I didn't like this..this happened to ME..2ft of pizza is how much?? but I don't realize how big 2ft is' mentality'

Agree completely, but i fear you're on the wrong threads for constructive criticism, hansenman.

Anyone whose been there, and seen the size of the pizza would know that it's huge, and the single slices alone (20Y or 25Y with meat) are filling enough for most.

Also, if you're coming from a western country, you almost certainly would be paying the same price or thereabouts for meat pizza of the same size.

Consider that to get a decent huifan or gaifan, with meat, in many Chinese places now, you're looking at 15 - 20 yuan. The reality is that Kunming ain't cheap anymore.

I can confirm that the thread starter does not know or have any involvement in the restaurant.

We had both been there together to check it out and he decided to post his thoughts since there was no listing yet. Yereth has advised that the listing will be put up at the restaurants request and not before.

Hopefully the new listings section will go up soon so reviews and new places are more obvious!

Wow..interesting idea. But if you know any of the people at Brooklyn, you'd realize they would never do this and not pay too much mind to a couple of negative remarks on a GoK forum. The only reason I'm writing is because this forum seemed to be going in the "OMG 18700 kuai for a pizza!?" route. I like this place and I don't want to see their business hurt from the snowball of negativity that seems to overtake most of GoK's threads these days..especially 'proven' (in one's own head) conspiracies of respectful business owners starting threads on GoK to spark buzz about their business. If anyone thinks this is a 'conspiracy thread to get people talking', you need to go down to Brooklyn at 7PM and see how much they need a 'conspiratorial bump' from GoK readers..lame...

Hasenman: I appreciate that you want to defend this place and promote it. But the way you are going about it makes it look like you are saying that the owners just don't care about their customer's opinions.

An comments like "even you!" are a tad presumptuous and insulting. You don't know me. And if you did you would know that I support many local expat businesses.

That being said, the responses on here have been generally positive, even the OP. So I will eventually go and check it out for myself.

My family went there last night with 2 other families, 6 adults and 8 kids total. We ordered 6 pizzas and 3 side dishes and all of our food was out within 20 minutes of ordering. The pizzas are huge! We took over half of what we ordered home. And it is by far the best pizza we've had in Kunming. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and they staff was very conscious of checking on tables and making sure people had what they needed (including refilling our water 3 or 4 times during the meal). I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting good pizza/sandwich/beer.
