@Tiger Agreed. But is this because it is altered to our taste? As Western food here is altered to suit Chinese tastes? I thought I loved Chinese food in England and was excited about eating it every day when I came here. In hindsight I had never tasted real Chinese food but ended up being disappointed.
Anyone who has eaten authentic Caribbean or Indian food knows what flavor and aroma in food really is. Spicy food is the most repulsive thing someone can call food. Here in Yunnan the only notion of variety is whcih type of red pepper they will put in the dish. They dont have a clue of what a spice is. The food without red peppers is bland, insipid and just plain nasty. Nothing like burning your mouth in the morning and then burning your ass in the evening.

BillDan, we experienced the same thing entertaining my husband's Chinese colleagues in the US. We selected some great restaurants, only to discover limitations like "no curry" from one member of the party, and ended up eating at a Japanese place (owned by Chinese) and the relatively authentic and expensive Sichuan place 3x. They were not especially fond of the Jewish Deli.
I really find it hard to believe that anyone believes that all Chinese food is terrible, and that Burger King and Taco Bell are far superior. It really boggle my mind. But, since everyone here is allowed to voice their opinions, except me, I guess I will bow out of my own thread.
Nothing repulses me more than watching someone eat spicy food. They eat with their mouth open to ventilate their pie holes since the slop they call food is so hot and spicy. Then to watch them wipe the nasty sweat of their brow with the same nasty rolled up piece of toilet paper makes me gag.

tigertiger, several posters in these forums have very clearly stated that they hate most or all Chinese food, and that American fast food is superior. BillDan is one of them.
People who eat spicy food complain about upset stomach, blisters in their mouth, or acne from eating too much spicy. They remind me of alcoholics who swear they will not drink again after a bad hangover. 2 days later, they are at it again shoveling the nasty red concoction back into their ruminating receptacles.
