But some people don't like the taste of lamb. They can't be "wrong". If they don't like it, they don't like it.
Your argument is complete and utter nonsense, in my opinion.
But I surrender. Believe what you like.
Thai food is better than Chinese food in my opinion because there is more yin-yang going on, sweet mixed with spicy, etc...
But it's subjective. If you like shoveling bucketloads of lajiao down your throat till it hurts, go for it!
And on that note, I am never ever talking about food again.
"BillDan, if I take you out to eat (my treat) to restaurant that is Chinese food, that I believe is very good, will you go with me, and then write an article about why it is terrible for my blog?'
No, it does not sound like a good idea, but thanks. Actually I am not a food person. I have had French food in Seattle and liked it a lot...oh but I forgot you don't think Seattle or San Antonio has good food. Anyway, I might not think it is terrible. I probably won't be salivating in anticipation either or rolling my eyes up in gastronomic delight.
I just said that because I knew you would mount your high horse and start preaching about it if I made a jab at French food. And I do believe you sit this thread up so idiots like me would begin having this little food squabbles with you. All I did was say I did not like spicy food and the attitude that goes with it here. And then you have to insult one of the great eating establishments in the world, Taco Bell.
I went out (allow me to digress a tad okay) earlier in my neighborhood where there is not much to choose from. There are lots of places to eat, a million, just not a lot to choose from. One new little Chinese style fast food place had a pizza. I thought I would give it a go. They ahd a bacon pizza or something (the guy spoke too fast and refused to slow down and use pu tong hua, I am speak and understand and even read some Chinese, but not the way he was using it... my fault... I am flawed) but I understood what he was telling me over all. I asked hi to not add the bacon, as my wife is a strict Buddhist and does not eat meat. He wouldn't do it. "bu xing". Why? I dunno. Who cares. The other day my wife wanted some street wrap and asked the guy to not add meat. Add everything but the spicy sauce and meat. He refused to serve her! What a blithering idiot. His haute cuisine, served up on top of a rusty fifty gallon drum, was beyond reproach in his myopic vision. My wife is Chinese and she does not eat anything and everything made in China. So why should I?
I brought up a point a while back (but you always ignore points people make refusing to find a middle ground) that the hundreds of thousands of Chinese people working all over Africa now DO NOT stop eating Chinese food and begin eating local foods exclusively. And why should they? Why should anybody? Your attacks are directed at Americans only man, are you aware of that?
So I don't want to have a meal with you because it would be very uncomfortable. But I do appreciate the offer.
@Magnifico
"And on that note, I am never ever talking about food again."
I am in your club. This is all childish and I am childish for engaging in it all.
So, how about that crazy Asian porn?
BillDan, I have never said that people should only eat local food. I said that people should not get excited about bad food (like Corn Flakes and Burger King). Those are two very different statements. In any case, I think those Chinese in Africa that you mention, are also food bigots.
Magnifico, lamb is objectively flavorful and good. If someone does not like the taste of lamb, then I would have to examine why. Also, there is a big difference between saying that food is objectively good yet personally not preferring it, and saying that because you do not like something, it is terrible.
BillDan, this thread is not a "trap". You yourself write very strong, opinionated things about food. Are they "traps"? Why can you write your opinion, but I cannot mine? I do the very same thing that you do, except that I happen to like Chinese food, and think that Burger King is bad.
So you admit that you're a food bigot then, mm?
If you said something like "If people eat too much bad food, it will harm their health", then that's a fair statement.
but saying "people should not get excited about bad food" is bigotry. who are you to tell people what they should and shouldn't get excited about?
BillDan gets excited by Japanese porn while his wife is away on business trips. Is that ok with you, mm?
BillDan, I never claimed that I'm not childish. Ha ha.
"Magnifico, lamb is objectively flavorful and good. If someone does not like the taste of lamb, then I would have to examine why."
See now you're going from ridiculous to absurd to cuckoo. So how would you go about examining why? Sit them on a reclining chair and ask them about their childhood issues? Make a photocopy of their tongues and examine it under a microscope to see if any taste buds are missing?
Come on, man! Please give it a rest.
In school I knew a kid who did not like ice cream. As a kid I thought they were weird. As an adult I have a broader view of peoples likes and dislikes.
In the UK I loved Chinese food, in fact I still do. Here... nah!
I now await my flame grilling.
Mgnifico, let me qualify "should." I am speaking purely hypothetically, purely philosophically, and not at all jussively. I would never argue that people should be forced to do anything. I am speaking from a purely rhetorical point of view.
I am arguing from the principles of Gastronomy, from a theoretical, academic perspective. Please understand that.
See, I was involved in Gastronomy for years before I went back to school to teach. So when people say things about Burger King being great, and about there being no measure of good food, I take it a little personally, I suppose, because it is my field.
I am not sure if you are a teacher, Magnifico, but assuming you are, what if someone said, "There is no such thing as good teaching. Sleeping in class as just as good as preparing and teaching great lessons. There are no good teachers. A backpacker without even a high school degree is just as good as a great, experienced teacher." How would you react?
'' Chinese people need to cook what they know how to cook, bland noodles in spicy grease''
@BillDan Totally agree! And they can keep it. Unless it's food made by Hong Kongnese. Amazing, flavorful and delicious. I can't get enough!
