It's Formaldehyde Walker and knowing this it brings tears to my eyes.
(Sorry, bad humor :)
I think Metro is your best bet. You may be able to find it on Taobao (read the reviews). People with taste will tell you if it's the right stuff. Or just trust your own taste-buds if you have drank it before.
I remember seeing news stories of the big name super stores selling fake products
Absolutely, I got "German black beer" from Walmart once, thinking that at Walmart it couldn't be fake...
One sip told me all I needed to know. It was foul swill, chemical laced crap. Should have smelt it before I swallowed it, probably took years off my life. Have had a similar experience with wine from carrefoure...
Never from Metro though. For some reason they seem to get it right.
@Alien said: "Why avoid Walmart and Carrefour?"
What the others said. Plus Metro has stricter rules on what comes in and out of their stores and on quality control. If I remember correctly, Walmart and Carrefour enjoy more independence, just like KFC, and it's up to their regional manager to approve operations. It's been reported on multiple occasions that it's not uncommon for some Walmart and Carrefour to have employees' own little operations going on in each store.
@Luis Figo, about red wine: I've almost stopped buying imported red wine in China because of its absurd pricing. If you have previous colleagues from Africa coming to China, you can ask them to bring a few bottles. Also, this current thread might help: www.gokunming.com/en/forums/thread/9802/suggestion_on_redwine
Lol and i thought it was in my head when the cereal I get regular from Carrefour never tastes as good as back home :)
@yankeeoo, my friend working in africa just bring me Ethiopia Mocha coffee, for them it is not convenient to bring alcohol . I will try to buy it from taobao, its fake or not, I can not control it.
why we can not give enough trust to Walmart or Carrefour? the point is about managers . I agree with yankeeoo, these managers enjoy more independence, they dicide whether the good is sold at Walmart or not . if distributors buy them off, they will sell their fake wine, and both of them benefit a lot . that is what is happening to these big name stores.
I find it hard to believe that Carrefour and Wal-Mart would risk damage to their reputation by allowing fake products.
most of buyer do not have any professional skills to check the wine is fake or not by packing & taste . if they are lucky enough, they buy a good one............ Carrefour and Walmart do not risk it, but manager who is working for them does it,
