Maybe one option against the trolling and name calling is if the person who starts the thread could also delete comments they didn't like from "their thread", maybe some threads would then be basically one man threads, but in these cases the moderator could just lock down those threads and block the user.

@Yuantongsi: Bad idea, would lead to simple propaganda, no exchange of opposing ideas etc., gives too much control to both thread starter and moderator. I'd rather have the trolls and name callers, if it comes to that, because anybody in his right mind can simply ignore them.

Censorship is never a solution, especially in an open forum such as this. Democracy and the freedom of speech is suppose to be messy, let everyone have their say and allow the listener make up their own minds. Once you start allowing asymmetrical information then it gets dangerously close to brain washing and indoctrination.

The forums deteriorated to an intolerable level a long time ago.

Yeah I also dont like consorship. We get enough of that already. We are adults so if u think someone is a moron u can just ignore him. Problem solved!

Forums never stay relevant wherever you go, just like a conversation they wonder! No problem with that, but censorship will end any forums life lol
