Never had tartar sauce with fries, but isn't tartar sauce basically mayonnaise + something something?
There's a Belgian fries place where I'm from and the fries are served with different sorts of mayonnaise.
P.S. Metro has tartar sauce

Mayonnaise
lemon juice
dill pickle
dill weed
pepper
Just the mayonnaise with chips every time for me :)
I tried this place a couple weeks ago. Decent fish with no bones, could even be cod! :O Good chips. The owner speaks English. No vinegar unfortunately but salt and pepper mills with sea salt!. Other stuff on the menu, including risotto, pastas and pizzas.
Well worth the 16 kuai. It quenched my four year craving.
RE tartar sauce. It's unusual to find it in fish and chip shops back home, at least in my town. Usually just salt, vinegar and mayonnaise. No tomato sauce. (we don't call it ketchup)
@BillDan
Did you find it? The street name is LongXiang Jie. Walk past Roberts school (away from Wenlin) for about three minutes, it's on the same side of the street as Roberts. Tiny place, with a picture of fish and chips outside and a visible English menu. Hard to miss.
Let us know what you thought.
Why is there no edit button??
They serve with mayonnaise, tomato sauce and a lime(not lemon). The fish portion is quite small, but for that price I'm not complaining.
@mPRin
Yea I found it. Just like Ocean's directions. It is catty-corner about 50 yards from DICO's on the other side of the street. I will go back but it needs tartar sauce and I found some on taobao for about 25 RMB.
One ingredient needed to make homemade tartar sauce that is hard to find here is horseradish sauce. a little mayo, a little pickle relish and a little horseradish sauce and you have pretty good tartar sauce. I worked in a kitchen for twelve years and picked up a few tricks.
Can get horseradish at Metro now. In fact they have 3 different brands.
@BillDan So a thumbs up from you? Worth the 16 kuai?
I've eaten the 4-5 times now. I find the fish a little underdone sometimes, but I've had no tummy repercussions at all, so I will be frequenting again!
