they are all cheap crap. they were state of the art maybe in the 50's,i guess. their design and layout are so outdated. especially the books they intend to hand out to the kids...if they have at all and which they shouldnt have, until they get to first grade. they smell of not caring for the kids they make enjoying learning English a nightmare.
there are,though so many books from small and big publishers out there that design fantastic english books with different emphasis on different cultural language focus.
i recommend ...check out what your learning group needs most, go online do some research and find a book or material series that feeds your students needs.
most publishers or importers are more than happy to send you samples.
it took me a year to find an actual "Curriculum" but it's perfect through and through.
so please don't punish your kids with those things. You are much better off as prev postet by making your own cards and materials plus you will learn plenty of improvising and level adjustments.
Bottom line is use what works for the student whether it's the crappy New Concept English or other materials.
cheap books doesn't equal works for the students.
because it's easy and cheap fir teachers and schools to buy and cash in a higher profit margin doesn't mean it works well.
students rarely complain since they don.t have a good comparison model.
i don.t know any school back home that uses those publishers or at least not those series mentioned above. seems to be an asian phenomena of not giving a damn except $$$$$.
Looking for recommendations for readily available less expensive, if possible, books and tools to teach conversational English to Chinese college graduates. Those who wish to improve their skills for work advancement. Meaning they can read, write and listen some but have no overseas experience.
New Interchange.
Really good for Ch teenagers, SS understand the content as they already know most of the contexts. I have found that nearly all activities can be turned into communicative activities. Published in China.

My purpose is for people like college graduates who are working to have a good structured English text for conversation learning and self-learning with limited support. Many of the books out there only teach test passing, use old English, use old methods or methods that are slow.
I am wish to look at these two: New Interchange series or Pearson Longman series. Or?
I want to know:
1. Costs for texts?
2. Information on the texts
3. Availability?
4. Teacher manuals and lessons available? and these Costs?
