violence at train station

Hey abcdabcd, yeah fair comment but I tired of being almost run down in traffic next to a police officer who standing with his buddies does nothing but carry on their conversation and cigarette. I do not work in an air-conditioned office as you suggested. I wouldnt compare police in Kunming with those in other cities in China or the West as 'risking their lives'. Yunnan people are lazy it is a well known fact in China. So the Yunnan Provincial government better harden up their public security or we are all at risk anywhere any time. How many public attacks, stabbings, shootings have taken place in the past two months alone, both reported and unreported in the media including organ harvesting and child abduction? Ask yourself that question and then let me know if the Police in Kunming and the provincial government are competent to protect the people of Kunming? What they should do is have military stationed in public areas ready to shoot, not wait 10 minutes for police to arrive and that may persuade similar attacks in future.

I agree the police here are way too lax. Not only the police but the security guards are so unqualified to carry out security. Most places just want a breathing body with a suit on to give the illusion of security. So sad this is how it is in Kunming. Things need to change.

It's not possible to have police stationed everywhere to prevent an eventual attack. Unless there's martial law maybe. If there's 17 more attacks like this, yeah then expect to see military on the streets at some point.

Nowhere in the world can police protect people from all crime. Only in the science-fiction film Minority Report can police prevent crimes before they happen.

I wonder what the "fork" is good for shown in an image on another website. Police should carry guns to fight serious criminals and shoot on sight. Not become victims themselves! And please stop killing the criminals. Just shoot them in their legs so you can at least question them later.

Letting these terrorists get this far is a blunder.

Yes, police here are too lazy sometimes.

So is telling me: "I'm sorry your car is stolen. We can't help you as we don't work on Sunday night".

Xinhua officially blames Xinjiang 'separatist militants' to have carried out the attack, allegedly based on evidence found at the crime site.

I do not like to contribute to hate-mongering. The Uighur have a motive for carrying out a terrorist attack: decades of violent cultural oppression in their own lands at the hands of the Chinese government.

So yes, a few 'goat-herders' (your words) from Xinjiang can carry out such an attack. Just like a few 'goat-herders' set the US on fire in 2001, whether or not that was an inside job.

While I believe that the only way to defuse the situation is to give the Uighur more independence, this attack will probably just have the adverse effect.

Seems the situation in Xinjiang has become a real national issue. I agree with Bluppfisk this type of attack while maybe coming from persecution will not end well for the majority of the Uighers.

Last night, 30 plus innocent people were MURDERED at our Kunming Train station over 100 were severely injured. This is WRONG. I saw the ambulances and heard the sirens. I was warned not to go out at midnight by Chinese friends. Pray for the families of those murdered and injured. Let us build a memorial to the victims. I call on the whole community, especially the foreign ones, to do this.
