just wondering if one gets their x visa and then wants to change which university they enroll in, is that permissible or must the holder of the x visa leave the country and get a new x visa? or can papers be filled out where we wind up studying to make the visa usable...

in other words, are universities like employers in that the one who helps you get your visa is the only one you can be formally associated with?

you can tell this is all new to me so i want to ensure i don't cause any unnecessary hassles later...

You can switch universities as long as you don't owe your current one any money. you need to get a release letter from them.

i should be more specific. the visa is at present being set up by a university in one city. but the student wants to go to another city and then enroll without ever enrolling in the first one. this person has never been to china (nor have i, clearly!).

will her student visa be valid wherever she winds up enrolling?

hi. I tried to do something like this last year, basically spend 6 months in one city and then exchange to another city. I was told by CUCAS that it can be done but difficult to coordinate.
However in yopopos case, the student has no intention of even going to the first university, so why not just apply for the visa through the actual intended university...drop the current application and start again.

so what if she comes to kunming next month on a tourist visa and then enrolls in a university. does she have to leave china to change her visa or can she take care of the needed paperwork in kunming?

She can come on a tourist visa no problem. I switched from a tourist to a student visa back in July with no problems. No need to leave the country.

I stopped studying in Jiangsu province because I was sick from the pollution and switched to another university here in Kunming. The Police station here said they could not change an X Visa for another X Visa. I had to go to HK and come back on a tourist visa to get a new X visa .... It sucked big time.
