Film/sound equipment for rent?

jojio (54 posts) • 0

Hey now, have been looking for cameras / sound recorders for rent, as i wanna start making some short films on the weekend sometime soonish.

Happy to find a rental place or rent/borrow personal equip wherever possible.

Cams, mics, recorders, lenses, lights, all that. happy to do with less and make it work as best i can.

And, hey, if anyone out there is into doing the same, boy would that be dandy!

Just a heads up.
If you are going to be making films in public areas, there may be one or two issues if what you are doing is seen as journalism.

If you turn up with all this gear, and a couple of helpers, you will be perceived as film crew.
I am sure there are some SS of film making in Kunming who could help put you straight, sorry I don't know any.

Considering most Chinese love expensive camera's a lot of people have HD and photo cameras of excellent quality. i.e. Canon 7D and 5D. Ask friends, family or neighbors. (Sound sucks though)
All you need is some good sound equipment.
Example: minidisc recorder with mini-mic and extension cable which you can attach to a bamboo stick :)

Seriously, buying this stuff online (taobao and such) is often cheaper than renting it. Same with professional lighting such as Kino-Flo's and more. They just copy them, but they are like 1/5th to 1/20 the price.

My only concern is what tigertiger mentioned: make clear you are a film crew filming something fictional for fun (no journalism). Get some students to help / act in it and you may be safer as it's educational and fun :) if not sure maybe talk to someone who works for an advertising company or ask at a police station if it's okay. An informed police officer is nicer to you often than when going behind their back and endangering them to get into trouble.

It is good to know there are people with experience in this field on gokunming. Please PM me your experience and background as I may have some projects in the future.

understood folks.
interiors work too, if a story presents itself ; or, at least, my roomie knows a few caves with bats and lotsa sounds. nature is always interesting too, in lieu.

yeah, a 5 or 7D would be cool...just sound is the real issue i imagine. everything else can be jury-rigged.
will PM. thanks!
