Heads up to Chinese tourists to LOS

bucko (696 posts) • 0

The crime in Phuket is beyond bad.

LOS is not cryptic language. Anyone in Asia uses this term for Thailand.

The mafia controls everything in Phuket. Jetski's, Taxi's, Tuk Tuks, police, motorbikes, most bars and many restaurants. Even the street katooeys.

Stay as a group you should have no issues. Go as a couple or single, you are looking at a high risk venture- day or night.

Traveling throughout LOS for 15 years, no doubt, Phuket is unlike any other parts of LOS. Most locals are nasty and dishonest, not typical of Thais.

I enjoy LOS and will continue to return often. But no Phuket, no way, no how. You can find a loooong list of problems tourists face in Phuket. Several countries are considering listing Phuket as a "not recommended" location for foreign travel.

If you want to "Phuket" experience, go to Samui (before it's too late). Word is, it's also going to catch up with Phuket in the future.
Do what you want, I am just suggesting you inform yourself of the facts before. Take it or leave it.

"Most locals are nasty and dishonest". Give me a break.

Ok, you know what? I'll leave it.

Sounds to me like you went there, got screwed out of some money, and then decided to start a silly thread here blowing it out of proportion and fear-mongering.

It's called Thailand. Thailand. Not LOS.

Have you been there Magnifico? Because bucko's assessment is bang on for me, having been there 3 times...

I'm more likely to belive someone who has traveled in Thailand for 15 years than some Gexpert spewing igonrance in every thread.

Please tell us about your personal experience in Phuket. We are all eager to hear with awaited breath.

Yes, I was there. And on some nights I was staggering through the streets at 4 am, barely conscious from the excessive alcohol I had consumed, and never felt the least bit threatened.

But I'm also basing my comment on this simple fact. Thailand's economy relies heavily on tourism, especially Phuket. I don't think the Thai govt would allow things to get so bad. It would be devastating to their economy.

One isolated incident, particularly of a 19 year old girl (who is high risk anywhere), doesn't prove squat. It's fear-mongering more than anything else. If he wants to prove his point, then maybe he can provide some crime statistics.

Hey Anti, how do you spell "belive" and "igonrance"?

Hmmm, not a native English speaker... Tommann is the only regular poster who's not a native English speaker that I can think of. But not enough proof at this point. Keep posting and I'll figure it out soon enough.

So one isolated incident of one foreigner "staggering through the streets at 4 am, barely conscious from the excessive alcohol consumed" proves what? Squat.

Here is another simple fact, foreigners wandering the streets of Phuket drunk at 4 am are either looking for drugs or girls.

Hahaha, are you gonna stalk me forever Anti?

Ok, being the Gexpert that I am, I just did a quick google search and it appears bucko might be right.

The fact is though that it would have been better to link to crime stats rather than this isolated incident.

Once again, putting your foot in your mouth. I'm not stalking you, I'm only responding to forum posts like any other poster.

But I see improvements in you, my young grasshappa. You are now admitting your mistakes, perhaps there is salvation for you after all.
