Soviet Engineering

Between 2000-2010, or so, Kunming, made it in the prestigious and higher class, English BBC News, a few times. Once, the was the story, when all dogs in Yunnan were killed, - after an officials daughter had got rabies from a dog bite. Another story, was about eating Sushi, in a Japanese restaurant on a naked woman (the laokunmingren smacked the restaurant windows and the protests closed it.) It hit the internationals. A third story was about protesting Kunming locals, against new building complexes called "Switzerland Plaza", "Las Vegas Gold", "Norway Dream", and such. Locals were quoted in media saying they are in Kunming, not in Norway, or anywhere else.

Last week I passed one of those fancy Plazas and building complexes built less than 10 years ago. The "P" had dropped down from "Plaza" and all was covered in dirt and rust: "..w.y Laza". The housing complex looked like Soviet engineering. It didnt even last 10 years.

Oh, it wasnt built back those days. Youd better count from when the Think UK was built, and add a few years, think, and get plenty them protests.

I love soviet engineering!
If it stops working you just have to hit. If it still doesn't work you just have to hit it again and harder.
Plus a lot of soviet engineering was made simple (so you could fix it). They had designed things the western countries couldn't make.

I saw a documentary about current space-missions. The engines are from Russia from the Cold-war era. They are simply more powerful and sophisticated than the US made ones surprisingly.

Regarding using western references, maybe Kunming can be the next Las Vegas. They already have the lights.
