Yes, tommann. and your vision has come to fruition. this thread is FUN.
coffee. milk for the coffee. add a couple more yuan. The author of 'The Vegetarian Myth' claims she developed serious health issues on a vegetarian diet. different people seem to tolerate meat-less diets differently.
If you want to go vegan, I have been led to believe, that you need to eat very carefuly to include all the foods your body actually requires. It is no mean feat.
This is like having a contest to see who can run the slowest. At what point is the speed of progression no longer considered running and in the end what does it prove?
Bare minimum to live on? 0 yuan, just sit in your apartment, do nothing until you die of thirst. Yey! How fun.
For the next act, lets see who has the most lint in our pockets. Get out your favorite pair of trousers!
Ready....? Go!!!!
@tony...
If your bored, try picking the lint out of your own navel, instead of thread sh1tt1ng.
I thought this is all for fun. Don't be so serious.
Happy new year
In my opinion a person would need 30 RMB a day to have a balanced healthy nutrition intake.
3 x 10 rmb meals a day.
I got this off the web long time ago - this was a popular if not enlightening news snippet that made the rounds about a cny 10k per month salary in Beijing. The salary is still a pretty good salary, but the article showed it doesn't stretch very far. It's also somewhat of a wakeup call for those trying to become legitimate employers (aka paying social insurance for your full-time staff).
Base Salary: CNY 10k per month
Social insurance and tax paid by employee: 2546 yuan
Social insurance and tax paid by company: 4, 410 yuan
Net income: 10,000-2546=7454 yuan
Calculation of monthly expense
Rental fee: Beijing downtown, one fully furnished bedroom, at least 3, 000 yuan
Water, electricity, gas, internet cable TV, cleaning management fee: 300 yuan
Transport fee: 300 yuan
Food expense: 1, 670 yuan (including daily meal 770 yuan, weekend expense 600 yuan and snacks and fruit expense 300 yuan)
Commodity expense: 100 yuan
Dress expense: 300 yuan
Mobile charges: 100 yuan
Social connecting expense: 900 yuan (those who have girlfriend may spend more)
Gift expense: 200 yuan
Recompense to parents: 500 yuan (Pay attention to filial piety)
Travel expense:150 yuan (based on 3 short distance travel a year, and expense of 600 each)
Total monthly expense: 7,420 yuan

I guess that's why young people choose to live at home with their parents. It takes care of the lodging and meal expenses!
If the definition of a 'foreigner' is relaxed to not just anyone who comes from the 'developed world', then living on a daily allowance of even below cny 10 is very possible and can be a must. I certainly know from what i have seen and been talking to a few Vietnamese work illegally here and in guangxi doing just that. Remember, sending money home to feed their family back home is the top priority, so....
A lot of the expenses in @latou list are to support a middle class lifestyle. I am sure if these kids lived the life that thier parents did in the 1970s the list would be shorter.
For example, if you look in old wardrobes, there is only room for one set of clothes. Certainly no clothes shopping every month.
Other's expectations would also be lower.
