Absolute insanity.
Anyway, as I have previously mentioned on another thread, and as is evident in the news all over the world, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and many other countries around the world will become even greater recipients of Japanese investment as a result of these crazy incidents in China.
The news channels in Thailand are currently showing reports featuring economists and businessmen rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of increased Japanese investment inside the country. Already Thailand is "Japan's manufacturing hinterland" with most Japanese pickup trucks built in Thailand these days, both for domestic consumption and export. Japanese electronics and supporting industries for cars, electronics and hard disk manufacturing are all big industries in Thailand, where a pro-Japanese and pro-foreign investment business environment are in force. Vietnam is also an emerging destination for Japanese investment thanks to a large, skilled laborforce and low wages.
Geezer, why do you defend the Chinese who want to murder all Japanese, then viciously attack your own countrymen?
Tommann, did i miss something. I am aware of many threats and much property damaged, but i was unaware of any chinese, japanese, or americans, etc. who where actually physically harmed during the protests. I wish the same could be said for the US ambassador who was murdered at the hands of some hate filled muslims. I did hear tonight that Japan wants to send a delegation to China to discuss the island problem.
I read that the Japanese consulate had reported 6 of its citizens had been physically attacked in some way or the other (not so seriously) in Shanghai, not during the protests but as a result of the intense anti-Japanese feelings that were brewed up last week.
The American ambassador (while he was in his car) was surrounded by a splinter group of anti-Japanese turned anti-American protesters, car scratched up a bit, ambassador shaken but not stirred. The Chinese government have already apologised for that "incident". This was reported on Shanghaiist.com but I think it would also be in the American press.
As you rightly said much evil can be done by hate filled people.
The problem here is its turning into an emotional issue very quickly. Its changed rather fast from "save our islands" to "anti Japan" to "boycott Japanese products" to "destroy Japanese products" to "anti America because they stand behind Japan (due to their self defence agreement signed post WWII)" to "attack foreign shops" to "looting" as can be seen in the pics...
This is exactly what happens anywhere if the government encourages through tacit agreement people getting angry. They get confirmation they should be angry, which makes them rise up on nationalist sentiment. Then at that point it quickly degrades into anything goes...
Once such an emotional issue starts, it becomes a game of one upmanship whereby one group want to prove they are more nationalist than the last group, hence the upward spiral of violence.
The arrests have began for the people who used the protests as an excuse for property destruction.
Permitted, allowed, condoned, Turn a blind eye. Regardless of the words used ask yourself - What is the purpose of these demonstrations?
