I have a solution - Turn off all the gadgets and put the toys away in your bag and communicate the old fashioned way with the people around you for those 24 hours. Stay in the present. See how many people in your phone really miss you and observe any withdrawl symptoms from coming off the gadgets.
OPTION 1
SOMETIMES if you're in the reserved sleeper cabins (the ones with the doors and four bunk beds as opposed to 6+ with NO doors), you can get a working power outlet in the hallway along with window side of the cabin's wall - but it's spotty as is service from the train's staff. They have to go throw a breaker somewhere to activate the power outlets and most will just look at you and pretend that's just the way it is...which it may well be. It's hit and miss.
OPTION 2
Go to the kitchen/restaurant car and PAY the guy a nominal fee to plug your appliance into their power outlet (assuming they have one to spare).
OPTION 3
Solar power chargers (sit next to a direct or indirect insolation window) or external battery packs.
But as HFCAMPO said ... seriously - if you're addicted to your gadgets, consider e-fasting...if that's possible. If I were single, I'd go chat up the train staff - they're usually quite attractive, very polite, and very well mannered, although also very busy and not particularly helpful when it comes to powering up your IT devices.
Further to HFCAMPO's suggestion.
Switch off and only power up when you wish to use them.
Check your messages only every few hours. When I travel I only power up twice a day.
Spare batteries.
Doesn't look easy at all. I think I'll go with HFCAMPO option.
But using iphone or ipad doesn't mean being antisocial or playing games all day. I don't have games there but many books. I can't read chinese so i would have to buy the books abroad being too expensive. So the only option is downloading them on my ipad. I'll read until no battery and then start chatting so I won't look antisocial or addicted :)
The basic Kindle and Kobo readers are very cheap now, and the battery life on the Kindle is 2 months.
Lots of free books for both. I use Kindle a lot, many books on Amazon are now Kindle, and once downloaded, even if you lose the Kindle, can be downloaded from your Kindle account.
Yes, the Kindle could be an option for a future but having an ipad I don't feel like buying another "machine".
I might buy something that helps extend ipad's battery life...
Thanks
