new to Kunming and seeing if there is any kind of book exchange infrastructure in place?

if not, anybody interested in Roberto Bolano's 2666 or James Fallows' Postcards from Tomorrow's Square? i also have Red Rock: The Long, Strange March of Chinese Rock & Roll, but am kinda attached to it; loan is fine, though.

i'm mostly interested in The Hunger Games, but will take almost anything.

There used to be a cafe on Wellin Jie that had a book exchange library. I assume it is still going.

I also think that the book exchange posts on here regularly. Have you done a search?

You can exchange books at the Vintage Cafe (Wen Lin Jie) and at the Silver Spoon (Beichen Pedestrian Walkway). I know the owners of both places and the Junction (Beijing Lu) should you want to set up some kind of book swapping meeting. They did do a book exchange at As You Like for a while (people just organized to get together and exchange books once a month).

thanks @tigertiger & @thebookexchange. good info. went to Vintage Cafe a couple of weeks ago and checked out the bookshelf there, but didn't find anything i liked (mostly paperback bestseller thrillers and the like), guess i'm more picky than i thought. been meaning to go to Silver Spoon at some point, but haven't... maybe tomorrow?

and yea, search just yielded long-dead book swap results. so i wanted to see if there was any interest in starting up a new book swap, once a month, at a favorite cafe, that is destined to slowly die until the process can begin anew?

If you are still in Kunming I have the Hunger Games trilogy audiobooks on my hard drive. If you still haven't read/heard them then drop by with a flash drive and I'll give you a copy. Also have Tolkien, Asimov, Turtledove, George R. R. Martin, Jack Vance, etc.

I find audiobooks are more to my taste these days less taxing on my eyes and a lot lighter to carry about.

I've just finished 'His Dark Materials' by Philip Pullman - Seymour. The production was the best I've heard so far, can highly recommend it.

I also have quite a few English language books lying about, that I brought over a few years back. Should do something with them, they are just going to waste here.

am still around and thanks for the offer, but i managed to find the trilogy in book form and devoured it in like a week.

audiobooks are less to my taste, mainly due to a lack of a mp3 player, but i'd be happy to rescue some of your books from going to waste.

also, in case i manged to pick up something that anybody wants over the last three months. my not-a-bookcase currently holds...

I can remember reading 'Ringworld' a looong time ago - excellent stuff you should really have a look at 'The Mote in God's Eye' a book Niven did with Jerry Pournelle.
