Long story short: After a short fling with a girl from Baoshan whom was living in Kunming, i have now been told by her that she is pregnant. We are not together anymore. She quit her job immediately after finding out and has moved back to Baoshan. She has now been in contact with me demanding money for child support although she is only 10 weeks pregnant.
She is coming up with wild figures and threatening to take me to court and call the police if i dont pay immediately.

What i need is some advice on how to handle this situation. What could she report me to the police for? Do i need to contact with a lawyer and if so any good lawyers you can recomend? Do i request for a paternity test? When can this be done? Can she demand child support before the baby is born? Am i obligated to pay her medical bills to deliver the baby?

I was man enough to make the baby, so i will be man enough to handle my responsibilities, but i dont want to be taken for a ride or get myself into any further unnecessary situations.

get paternity test. Even so, you have to be smart about it. Am just a layman but i think you do not have to pay anything until you are certain the child is yours. You will be her 'gold mine'. Even if you support the child, do you think you will ever get to know the child??? She would probably use the child to pocket money for herself.
So, i would say no money till you are sure that the child is yours....
Even if you pay, pay the rate that local Chinese would pay, not some exorbitant overseas rate for the support she is to receive.... Once you make the stand, she can't push you around.

Of course she can report you. You bear the burden of proof. Is she really pregnant by you? Are you really the father? Find out if she's done this before. The easiest thing is to have her perform an abortion. Of course you'll pay for it. You can only determine paternity after birth and you don't want it to get to that. Why have a baby that you will not be fully involve with. Why have a baby from a woman you don't know all that well. Think of what problems you will have with her family AND your family. You can always flee the country but then in the future when you meet your Mrs Right, she should know that you fathered a child in China. It wouldn't be right for her to think you don't have a child. Anyway, I wish you the best. Just my 2 cents. By the way, I ask my wife about this (she's Chinese), she said many women use this as a way to get money. She said don't be surprise if she tells the police you raped her. Your word against hers. If she doesn't agree to an abortion, chances are she's after your money (she assumes that you have). I find it a huge red flag that she demands money from you like that. Child support is normally something you pay after the kid is born, and she doesn't have anything to report you to the police about (unless it is rape, but I imagine by now you've already saved as much of your correspondence as you could, which would put you in the clear on that one. If she's really planning to go ahead and have the child without a husband, she's stirring up a giant hornets' nest of trouble with the authorities, and the risk of not being able to find a husband later on.

I think there is a good chance this could be a scam in the sense of either she's not pregnant, or she's going to milk you for everything she can before she gets an abortion.

She is deffinately pregnant, have been with her to the hospital. Have asked her to have an abortion which she bluntly refused. I dont want the baby, but i cant force her to have an abortion.

abcde, do you sense she's after your money/status? How is her family reacting to her being pregnant? Are they telling her to have the baby?

so what if you have been to the hospital with her? the child might not be yours ...... if she could make you believe ( if the child is not yours) is yours, $$$$ for the rest of her life is taken care of... Imagine how many other man she can have while carrying your child.

Just because she IS pregnant doesn't mean she's planning to have the baby. It could easily still be her or her family's attempt to get some money out of this while they have leverage. Unless she's a deranged Christian or VERY different from the average Chinese woman, there is no way she'd at least consider an abortion in this situation.

I agree with Danmairen and mehnyaa. What if you said you were leaving the country and never coming back? Threaten that you will leave and never return if she doesn't have an abortion. Do you really want to be a prisoner for the rest of your life?

I am chinese, and I can assure you there is no way she can force you to pay the money for her kid since you are not married, even if they go to the court they can not force charge you legally. but if you are willing to offer some compensation on the abortion it would be nice and proper.
