I used to recommend "Surmount Gym" next to the Walmart in xiao xi men. However in the last 6 months something has gone horrible wrong with that place, and I'd suggest you steer clear of it to be honest. The homo-erotic vibe in the gorilla pit I can live with, but the terrible management, equipment that stays broken for months, and filthy changing rooms have ruined what used to be a great place for a workout.

I cannot agree more. My firend and I spent 11 months there. In the beginning, it looked nice. Then the floors under got redecorated for some times and caused air poison with smells of painting and wooden funiture. After that things began to fall apart, like equipment not well attended and hot water ocationally in shortage for shower. So the last month of my year card just shot to hell. I guess it is hard to find a gym thats geographically desirable. Check on those downtown and in xiao hua yuan area. Good luck.
