prescription drugs?

jonny9 (59 posts) • 0

I need to fill a prescription (written by a doc in China) but the local hospitals (including Richmond) don't have it. I know that this medicine is available in western and other countries. Should I try to order from an online pharmacy?

Any good ones (deliver promptly to China)?

I have never heard of an online Pharmacy in China. There are lots of people selling prescription only meds, but most if not all are fake.

Have you tried to ask for a prescription of a substitute drug that is available in China?

Why did the doc prescribe that particular drug, did you ask for it? Seems odd that the doc prescribed something not generally available.

If the drug is made my Pfizer, Astra-Zeneca, or Bristol Myers Squib (BMS); they all have big offices in Shanghai and most of the managers speak good English (the latter 2 companies English training is compulsory and staff need to be good to get promoted). It may be possible to ask IF (big if) any of the hospitals in Kunming stock the drug you want. You could then try that hospital's pharmacy, although they may demand you have another consult.

Sorry I cannot be of any more help.

I have often found that generic drugs are available here as an alternative to brands that might be prescribed. Also I've sometimes found that the hospital pharmacies are not as well stocked as the normal high street ones. Just check the expiration date of whatever you end up with...

If you have a couple options for the pills, and can give them in the "scientific" or medical names, and also know a few different brand names you should be pretty much set.

Without knowing what exactly you're looking for it's hard to know, but there are pharmaceutical substitutes and/or generics for most things. And I remember that being the case in China too. Just go to a big pharmacy where they have more options. Honestly, in China I've always just looked up what I need online and went to the pharmacy and convinced them that I knew what I needed and that a doctor wasn't necessary. But with the doctor's note, it should be all that much easier, especially if you're able to tell them what you need it for.
