Recruiting in Kunming

I am looking to set up a representative office in either Beijing or Kunming, the deciding factor will be the calibre of people that I would be able to hire in Kunming. Positions I'd be hiring for include business development, engineers, accountants and admin staff. Can anyone give advice on where I could begin advertising these jobs so that a good quality of workers would be able to apply. Also can anyone advise on the calibre of employees in Kunming.

Thanks!

There is a higher calibre of potential staff in Kunming than most other tier two/three cities.

I have a theory that most people with 'get up and go' head for the big cities to earn big money, and escape from poor environments.
However, Kunming is a very desirable location with a nice culture and good future prospects. This, I believe, is why kunming can hold on to its talent pool.

I don't know what business sector you are in, but presently Kunming's economy is mainly built on horticulture, agriculture, and trading with ASEAN countries. I believe 50% of all fresh produce imported into China comes via Yunnan. And all trade through Kunming is growing.

Beijing will offer :
-a higher number of hungry graduates to choose from
-more business potential
-higher costs
-more competition
-a less stable workforce (job hoppers are common)
-a bureaucracy that is possible more supportive of Rep Offices.

I am no expert, but these are just a few observations.

We are a commodity trading company and also will begin mining close to the Myanmar/China border.

We already have western staff on board and are looking to employ Chinese.

Are there any specific websites or anybody that i could contact such as an employment agency. I have been looking on the internet and it's been difficult to find information about recruitment in Kunming.

Many thanks for all your help!

www.meijob.com
is another one

I would be cautious of headhunters. Anybody can set themselves up as a headhunter in China, and many, many unqualified people do. They will even put forward unsuitable candidates, which is a waste of everyone's time.

If you want to find out more about recruitment in Kunming, you need to find someone who can help you search in Chinese.

Have you tried searching using Baidu.com search engine?
You may be able to search in English and get back lots of search results in Chinese characters. If you use GoogleChrome as the browser, you can set it to translate for you. Just an afterthought.
