As most of you are probably unaware, a new hospital - Kunming
Tongren Yiyuan (昆明同仁医院)- has opened on GuangFuLu (广福路).
This is a satellite hospital of Beijing Tongren Hospital (one of the
best ENT departments in China).
I had been planning a trip to Thailand for nose surgery (septoplasty,
turbinoplasty, etceteraplasty), but was dreading flying with a
freshly operated nose. The other option was taking the train to
Beijing or Shanghai, also unattractive.
I went in for a consultation and to check out the facilities and was
pleasantly surprised. Other than the Chinese signage, I could have been in any modern hospital in any western country.
I decided to have the operation last week, stayed in hospital for four
nights. Incredibly clean, modern, well-equipped, and efficient. It's
everything Richland Hospital was supposed to be. The operation went
smoothly, and I'm now home recuperating.
The only drawback is the nurses don't speak English, some of the
doctors do however. This would be a good option for anyone not
wanting to travel for surgery, just hire a local student for a few
days to work as interpreter.
And for anyone wondering about the cost - surgery, medications,
consultation, follow-up and four nights in hospital was 6500 RMB.
