Can anyone tell me the current address of Kunming's Catholic church(es)? There used to be a big one at the intersection of Beijing and Jinbi, but it was torn down some years ago. Where is the replacement? All Soul's Day is approaching.

If you can't find it may I recommend that you spend the day reading a good book instead. You can buy Christopher Hitchen's "God Is Not Great" right here in Kunming.
i can't tell Catholic from Methodist from Presbyterian from... (why can't folks all just get along?) but i know there are Christian churches on Renmin Lu near Wuyi Lu, and on Dongfeng Xi Lu across from Shuncheng Mall. dunno what denomination they are though.
and isn't it called All Souls' Day?
i'm pretty sure Danmairen's probably already read it, but i've got a copy of Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion that i can loan out...
Brought my copy to China when I got here. Thanks anyway. You can pick up the Hitchens' book, some Bertrand Russell and other stuff cheap at the book outlet right behind Dairy Queen on Ren Min Zhong Lu. There's also some Garcia Lorca and even Warren Buffet and quite a few different classics. 6-15 kuai a piece new, but paperbacks. Last month I stocked up 20 books for the upcoming winter there.
Hitchens smitchens! I seriously doubt that Hitchens or Dawkins have anything to say that Voltaire didn't say better 250 years ago. (Certainly their followers don't; they much resemble born-again zealots.) Moreover, Voltaire didn't have to explain away all the imperialist and nationalist and social darwinist and marxist massacres of the last two centuries.
In any case, on the proper days, I want to perform the proper riturals, and I want to remember my dead Catholic mother in the Catholic Church of Kunming.

Catholic churches are labelled "tian zhu jiao" (in Chinese). Protestant churches are labelled "ji du jiao".
I bought _On the Road_ at that bookstore behind Dairy Queen. H.'s and D.'s tracts are likely to be as boring as any evangelical tract, I fear.
There was a Catholic church across from the PSB on Beijing Lu, but I believe it was demolished, not sure what will happen to the land.
That demolished RC church on Beijing Lu is the one I was thinking of. I presume it's been replaced, but I don't know where the replacement is.
I did some checking on the internetz, and they're saying the church will be rebuilt on the same location, albeit larger. If previous church/mosque rebuilding projects are any guide, it will probably have a shopping mall on the first floor.
Anyway, I'd suspect that they're holding services at a temporary location nearby. Head down to the demolition site and see if there's any information posted on the construction wall. If they're holding services somewhere, they'll post an address or phone number.
