What are the average prices for tutoring English? How do people go about doing it? Is it better to work as an English teacher if you are studying or to Tutor?

That's right. From 100 up. Anything less is a throw back from 2006.

If you teach small classes of 4 to 8 students on your own then 150 yuan/hour shouldn't be much of a problem.

If you work at a public/private school then don't get your hopes up for great working conditions, but the pay should at least be 100 yuan an hour.

it`s just someone would like to get the price even if right now. But the status quo is that nowadays people can go about tutoring English much more than they used to. if you understand a little bit about the the law of supply and demand, you will see the situation changing according to each other. or you have to give it up if you insist that so-called "average price"

For economically speaking, that is seem out of touch with kumming local person`s disposable income reality.

It is not unheard of to get 200 kuai an hour. Many of my friends are now getting that. I guess the demand for western tutor's is now greater than the supply. And the supply of demanding Chinese parents is ever increasing. Don't sell yourself short. Next time you see a Mercedes or BMW in your complex. Walk up and offer to tutor their kids. You will have more work than you know what to do with.

Maybe it`s some of western tutor`s hope just like the peasant always want to get big money from selling their agricultural products, however thay very often iglnored the flexcible of demand about the ag products actually is the lower than others . But the same Unfortunately for English educated product, the demand of western tutor`s is now increasing in explict, but the flexcibel of that, is to be the higher that mearns the higher price is,the fewer demanding of pepole is. If you charged someone excessive fee like getting 150 yuan or higher than this of per hour to 200kuai. It is ridiculous,if i may say so.

According to the survey report about the income of the local pepole, averge income of every family (that the double work) just only is 8000RMB. Espectially for the three of family, consumption for living is great in city.

Mayya_happy. I think that a person that wants tutoring needs to of course shop around to fit their budget. I know of student's who are willing to pay 200 RMB without blinking an eye. As more and more students plan to go abroad, many parents are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that they learn and pass the Ielts or Toefl test. Even though the income in Kunming is not high, there are many 'rich' parents believe it or not. I was surprised at the amount of 'well-to-do' people here in Kunming. I think that the lowest should be 100RMB.

I agree in gist what Mayya said about the income disparity. Your average Kunming parent would have a hard time justifying 200yuan/hour to tutor their kid. Having said that, most Kunmingese would also have an hard time purchasing a BMW, Audi, GUCCI, LV, etc. but you see them all over the place. It depends on who you are catering to. There are plenty of people able to pay 200+ if they feel it is worth it, there is no need to cater to your average Chan.
